NINTENDO DOES NOT NEED TO UPDATE THE GRAPHICS BECAUSE GRAPHICS ARE GOOD ENOUGH NOW!

I hate people saying the graphics are outdated/weak/etc., they're fine, they do massive 3D worlds in good detail don't they?

HDTV will need widespread adoption before it becomes a must-have feature on a console because a) Graphics are good enough now and b) They're not free on street corners - they cost twice the amount an HD console could cost and it will take 5+ years for most gamers to have one.

Blu-ray is even worse off, as you need to sell even more expensive players for high-capacity optical media and they're not much better than DVDs but cost far, far more and there's not many films out on it versus DVD, plus the market is split between HD-DVD and Blu-ray so real enthusiasts must buy both!

I do think virtual reality (Don't. Use. Brandnames. For. Generic. Technology.) is the next big thing in gaming though.

 I agree sort of. The Wii's graphics allow for some great looking games given the proper artistic design. But we're talking in terms of the gen after this. And in 5 or 6 years time, Nintendo will be in the great position of being best primed for their new console, they can make substantial jumps in tech power without spending too much money, while at the same time havint the conole that looks to have made the largest jump in graphics from it's predecessor.

So yes, the Wii 2 will have high def and substantially better graphics. you can say that without criticizing the current one.

I think Nintendo has the advantage in controller too. Jsut because they release a new console doesn't even mean they need to release a new controller. The only thing I would change is adding a mic and rumble to the Nunchuck, adding a better speaker to the Wiimote, and improving the battery life by at least double on top of this. Other than that, the layout could stay the same, which means people could keep their old controllers and have no issues adjusting to the new one.

In a way, they could do the same thing Playstation did with the PS2 controller.

First off... I never said Nintendo had weak graphics.... What I said or meant to say is that with the New Hardware updates the graphics will naturally be updated as well.

Secondly... In the U.S. HDTV is going to be come a requirement soon so for the most part not making HDTV systems wouldn't make sense and as an important note a lot of retailers have more HDTV's then Normal T.V's. So it is becoming pretty popular.

Thirdly... HD-DVD at some point is going to die out. Blu-Ray will most likely become the next DVD. HD-DVD if it continues will have very little to do with the next gen of video game consoles if any at all... Or they adapt that darn Super Blu thingy that keeps popping up on my screen.

You've obviously put a lot of effort into your original post in this thread, too bad it's so flawed (not that it would have mattered anyways since this topic has been discussed to death).

I expected bluray to fall flat on its face from the start. It's actually doing good. It's showing itself to be competitive with HDDVD and it does actually have better future potential than what I see with HD DVD.
5+ years down the road I see bluray doing okay.

My only issue now is that it's still too early in the technological cycle. DVDs are still outselling Bluray and HDDVD, I see it staying that way for a while yet.

i agree with you game_boy the next step is virtual reality type gaming and the wii took the big step towards it first. the ps3 with different sku's is proven a bad thing cause last year at xmas it was proven sales wise. the 360 isnt selling as well as what htey think it is cause of the 3 different sku's now. the more product on the market you have tha tis the same thing with different prices and such is actually death. why else do you think sega died within 5 years after the genesis ended cause near the end of teh genesis's life they created the 32x, teh segacd then brought out he saturn witin a 2 year span. it kills your company to have many sku's.

It is a good point. If the Wii wins next console Nintendo will need to come up with something new since they can't just improve the graphics. They could but that won't drag people in anymore.

Of course then again maybe it will. I mean I'm pretty biased on the matter.

To sound like a crazy game developer or two to me graphics are like a weapon. They make one of two exactly even games better. The weapon thing comes in from an old movie. A Conan movie I want to say.

Conan or whoever is standing there facing down another warrior who says "You're better but only because you've got the legendary sword". Conan says back "Weapons don't make the Warrior." "But a weapon will make the difference between to equal warriors." and conan shoots back "There are no equal Warriors".

Which even with games like Madden which are multi-platform it really isn't because the rest of the hardware matters. For example I know a few couple girls who really like the PS2 and Gamecube but wouldn't go near a 360 because of the gigantic controllers.

For me it's never been about the graphics, for me to buy a system it has to show me it can make better games then the ones i'm already playing.

Gigantic controllers?  Are you talking about the Xbox's original controller because the 360's controller isn't gigantic.

 I was thinking the same thing, mainly because he compared it to the PS2 & GC. Even still the S Controllers are small enough.
