Which makes up for some of the score... Also, ckmlb, in case you didn't see whoever else posted it...there were definitely ground missions in the last Rogue Squadron game...and they sucked, majorly. Which is why I've doubted Factor 5 and Lair since day one... |
Even though you stated that lair was going to be a big game as well as bio shock, in the news section or a thread.

Hey, Strikers looks like a rip off of Megaman Soccer and Megaman Soccer was all sorts of fun. Though I am shocked that it would be reviewed well.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who's played both Strikers and Mega Man Soccer could honestly say this.

Well I still expect Bioshock to do well...and I expect Lair to sell well still.
And trust me, I've always been gung-ho about Bioshock...Lair not as much.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I think there is a little bit of a difference between the Star Wars game and Lair. I only rented that game because I didn't care much for it (though I enjoyed the first two games of the Rogue Squadron series). I didn't get far in the ground combat of the Star Wars game and I don't know if being on the ground in Lair is really required, but since you're on the dragon, Lair is more of a 'mow down everything' and I see that as very different from the Star Wars game. When it comes to ground combat, I'm more (and always have been) worried about the ground soldiers you fight against because they didn't look too interactive with the dragon. In the videos, they seemed to be more like bowling pins rather than any kind of threat and to me, that looked kind of boring. Hopefully there will be some calibration options for the Sixaxis to make it more comfortable, but it shouldn't be impossible to get the hang of. I don't remember which site's preview said it, but they said it takes a while to get used to it, but it's much better once you have. I wasn't expecting a 10 from the game, but I'm expecting it to be similar to the Rogue Squadron games with large levels that should look good with tons of stuff everywhere and except for the cheesy Star Wars voice acting, the Rogue Squadron games (in my experience, the first two of the series), they were fun. |
There wasn't much strategy in the ground missions in Rogue Squadron III either... it was basically run and gun your way to the end. Similar to "mowing things down" when you need to in Lair.
I assume Lair will have you flying around, completing objectives, and sometimes your objective will be to kill some guys down on the ground...
I don't like how when you kill the soldiers, they're just standing there, and it kicks into slow motion every other kill. It'd get tiring for me...
But again, I'll hold judgement til more reviews come.

I haven't played strikers yet. I plan to pick it up however, though mostly because i thought it'd be a lot like Megaman Soccer. IE Soccer game with some stuff to spice it up a lot. Granted Strikers adds a lot to that like the Multi-ball thing but i generally thought it'd play like Megaman Soccer. A Soccer game isn't the kind of game i'd expect to be reviewed well in an american magazine.
Why does it play different?

To me, they've made the ground combat seem more like Dynasty Warriors when they've described it. Now, except that you can fly and be on the ground, the moral system and events where you'll have to destroy things to increase the moral is very much like Dynasty Warriors.
As for the slow motion stuff, I hate it when games do that. I've cringed at every gameplay video where it shows slow motion while you're mowing down stuff. I wouldn't mind a slight 'slow-mo' effect (kind of like God of War 1 and 2), but there is WAY too much emphasis on the slow motion in Lair. I think it takes away from the action of the game and deters you from doing certain things because it forces you to go through slow motion. Spartan: Total Warrior is another example of that, after a while, you'll probably only start to use the 'Blades of Athena' not only because they're fast, but their 'rage move' is the only weapon in the game that doesn't force the game in slow motion when you use it.
So how will all this affect Lair sales? I don't think this game has any chance now of selling a million copies and very likely won't raise PS3 sales beyond what the price cut has.
