I disliked FF12 for character development, having known what the original plan was. The story could have been explored more. The battle system was alright, but the gambit ruined the battle system. Again I could understand why you wouldn't want to talk to FF fans. Sometimes they can be annoying. (Yes I called myself annoying, HAR HAR)

 

Character development was why I loved FFXII's narrative so much. Finally, a Japanese RPG that doesn't rely on constant flashbacks to flesh out a character! Thank you, oh merciful gods, for delivering this unto me, your servant in perpetuity.

Gabranth was also the best-written character ever, which helped.

As to the battle system: I don't see how you can dislike the Gambit system. It was just aces, and made everything so much faster and more energetic in big battles.

@Xen: Yeah, actually, I did like Vaan. He actually developed and grew up as the story went on, which was pretty nice, and he wasn't some big whiny tit like Tidus.

I didn't play the same game as you did then. Vaan says like 4-5 lines of text in the whole second half of the game. He didn't grow up as the story progressed because the story never progressed and that's why this game sucked. The rest: graphics, combat system, etc. were ok.



How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

You know what makes me laugh too...

and I mean... it's not really the designers fault or anything...

but you get this horrible sob story about how Vaan and the rest of the Orphans are so poor they can't afford food and Van has to steal...

then i'm out on my hunt like 10 minutes later... and when i get back after fighting monsters for a while, i've got enough gold to buy like EVERYTHING in the store.

It just makes me think "That selfish prick, Van could just hunt a few wolves sell theire hides and bam, all the orphans would have enough food... unless food costs more then Swords, magic and items that bring you back from the freakin dead.

The average Joe is a whiny wuss when faced with fighting an evil empire.

I mean hell, how would you react if it was up to you and your friends to save the world from an overwhelming alien force.  You'd probably be a big wuss about it for a long time until you got some success and confidence along the way.

Gundam seed  destiny learned that lesson the hard way. Shinn was so hated. Yes I know this is Off topic, but so is discussing FF12.

There seems to be a lot of tension inside Square Enix and it didn't start recently. Don't forget that Uematsu and Matsuno (the original director of FFXII who left during the project) left the company recently. I think there are a lot of conflicts inside the company and that is the reason why Kitase and Nomura could leave the company.

I don't have time to wade through this massive thread, but I will say this: If it does actually happen, the day Nomura leaves is a great day for Square Enix.
