Also, didn't Matsuno leave due to poor health?

No idea, but Uematsu left because he knew he could make more money.

No no,......he left because headquarters of S-E shifted from one town to another one....n it was away from his family...n he didn't want to stay away from his family....hence he left.

He still does some songs for them. I think being private was one of the deciding factors.

it must've played a role + being private meant not having to go to their HQ which was away from his wife n dog (which was described as his family in the 1up interview)

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

^It's funny why it's usually a whiny wuss. Can't they just take the average joe?

The average Joe is a whiny wuss when faced with fighting an evil empire.

I mean hell, how would you react if it was up to you and your friends to save the world from an overwhelming alien force.  You'd probably be a big wuss about it for a long time until you got some success and confidence along the way.

You're right about that.

A thief is just not someone I see as a usual everyday guy. It'd be cooler if Vaan was in the imperial army, and then conviced into leading a revolution.

That would not be cooler

That would be playing into too many crappy anime tropes to count

True.  Though I think Orphan is also an overused theme.   Probably because it's just easier to not have to deal with parents who would likely be adverse to their child running off and starting an aventure vs a giant army of evil.

Also it avoids the RPG trope of your parents being killed in the first act. Which is always a plus.

I don't really see your parents being killed off camera any better.

Really i guess the problem is that if your parents come along you aren't really in charge of the story.

Still things could be done.  Like you being seperated, or like say, you getting arrested for stealing from the empire and have to be on the run.

Vaan could of eaisly had parents i think.  It would of even been more touching I think if you saw the entire broken family after what happend to Reks rather then just the one guy.

Vaan trying to explain to his parents that Basch is ok and wasn't the one to do it, them not beliving him... or even if they did thinking he was just going to lead another son to their death...

Really it'd been pretty good all around i'd think.

Sibling relationships being thematic in FFXII was a lot more unified and powerful, I thought, than the typical "power of family" RPG angle. Parents just didn't fit into the picture, because that game was about brotherhood and sisterhood. The only father figure in the entire game was the Archadian Emperor, and you saw how that turned out.

Or you could do Star Ocean 3 style, parents kidnapped and you trying to rescue them. Or Suikoden III style, your mother is part of your party. There are tons of ways

Wow this got way offtopic...
Well every FF related thread does anyway. I guess I should just give up...
Did anyone miss Uematsu in FFXII?
And also, do any of you know why FF characters make aperances in every square game ever, but no CT character ever does? That's bullshit if you ask me! Some CT love in Kingdom Hearts would've been great!

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Because Chrono Trigger was an abandoned FF Idea.

It was the original FF7, that was spun off into it's own game.

To think... Chrono Trigger could of been the way the Final Fantasy games went instead of Final Fantasy 7.

That would of been pretty neat.

Uematsu is a great composer, one of the best in the industry, but so is Sakimoto, so it wasn't much of a loss. Sadly, the soundtrack, while great, still doesn't compare to Sakimoto's best  (FF Tactics). Though not many do

That is almost haunting. Think of how different things would have been.

I just keep thinking to myself.  "Maybe they would of all ended up like Chrono Cross!"

Not a fan of Chrono Cross.  Then again it probably would of just been that timelines FF8.
