And what facts is this based on? If GTAIV can have 2.5 million in the channel, then I don't see why MGS4 can't have a million.

Konami shipped 3,94 mln. MGS4 by the end of June,
and shipped additional 400k during July-September, since by the end of June they already had around 1 mln. MGS4 copies at retailers.
That makes sense. =))

Unless, MGS4 sales are higher, then 3.27 mln. by the end of Septmber.
I doubt, that retailers are gladly accepting 1 mln. MGS4 copies on their shelves after 4 month since MGS4 release. =))

I mean, having 1 mln. copies since July, and getting another 400k after demand slowed.. no logic(unless demand was higher).

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

You don't have to be so rude,he's a new member. About the topic: Perhaps (As with many other titles) we'll never know the exact number,but this should be somewhere between VGC and Konami ones. Afterall no such a big deal,MGS4 has achievment great numbers for a small userbase than his predecesors and nobody can't deny the astounding quality of this gem.

Is no one bothering to look at the report.

It clearly says "METAL GEAR" not MGS4..... the total number of copies of any Metal Gear game (most are MGS4 of course, but not all) in the 6 months is 4.33 million.

MGS4 passed 4 million and 4.33 figure is for all MGS games. I think MGS4 is around 4.1-4.2 million.
