What idiota said that the Wii is equally as powerful as the PS2? No really Wii has SMG, MP3 and Zelda oh so they can be done on the PS2? What, do people cover there eyes when games like these are shown?

OT: nice read and I am buying this game whether it is close to what’s on the PS360 or not!

loads of people on gamefaqs....

though those people tend to say psp games look better than the average wii game.

and some will insist RE4 gc looks noticably worse than RE4 ps2, though I guess some people like dropped polgon counts, texture depths, mipmap lines, and slowdown

But looking at the wii's hardware, the gekko already had enhanced vector instruction sets, no telling if further enhancements were made for the wii, futhermore the cube only had 24 megs of ram that was really useful for work, the other 16 megs were basically a drive buffer as it is really really slow ram compared to the wii's 88 megs which is all much faster, and the wii has twice the pixel pipeline's which results in a trippled fillrate, much more than just a gamecube 1.5

and if you think the gamecube was noticably weaker than the original xbox, watch some of the videos of star wars rogue squadron games, they make extensive use of bump mapping, various lighting effects, and feature very very high polygon counts coupled with fast frame rates, it's a shame the gamecube hadn't been more popular as the xbox's big advantage was in the industry standard shader vs the proprietary gamecube shaders

i always think wii's graphics is acceptable to me. i had lots of fun playing with my ps2, so y not wii?

Something that's always puzzled me since this game was declared a graphical power house; people keep comparing it directly to the 360 games. I don't understand why... Why not PS3?

Is it because the 360 is the shooter console?

Next this article is from about 3 months ago on n4g. >.>

IMO they need to work more on the textures for te enviornment, probably add some fog ambient lighting.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Wow, I haven't really seen very much of that game before today. At that Youtube quality, I could confuse that with an HD game! xD

Developers on the Wii aren't going to be looking to use that power.

1. Why spend millions to develop engines to take advantage of the Wii when its a dead end graphical architecture?

2. Do developers see a return for spending a lot on advanced graphics engines especially as they are already a couple of years behind the ball and need to get games out quickly.

So really its the PS3 question but worse, because we have a userbase which as a whole does not respond as well to developers pushing the envelope of what the system can be seen to do.

I don't have high expectations of most developers taking advantage of the Wii's additional features primarily because the developers will not see much value in it, not that there is anything wrong with the hardware. For the most part, when Wii gamers are looking for a game with "Good Graphics" they are not really looking for games that have the most advanced effects, they're looking for a game that has a good art style and a polished presentation.

MySims Kingdom is a perfect example of this ... There is nothing (particularly) advanced in the game, and it could (possibly) be ported to the PSP,

Now, this doesn't mean we won't see many games that do try to find out what the limits are on the Wii. You will always have developers who try to stand out from the crowd and one of the "easiest" ways to do that is to produce advanced visuals.

The truth of the matter is that even the Game Cube was more powerful than the Xbox. However it's GPU and especially its RAM limitations created a situation where games had to be tailored through the Game Cube's special quirks in order for that power to come of use, which meant that it rarely did. I'm sure that most people agree that very few, if any last gen games at all, looked better than Resident Evil 4 - Game Cube, or The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. (RE: 4, which was originally a GC exclusive, and Twilight Princess Nintendo's own product.)

Did he mean that there isn't a GC game that looks as good as RE4, or that there isn't a PS2, XBOX game that looks as good as RE4?

Cause God of War 2 looked above and beyond better than RE4.

And if someone mistook Conduit for a PS360 game, they must be blind.

God of War 2 is a nice looking game, but it has a lot of polygonalization artifacts, pixelized textures, and unimpressive lighting which plagued the PS2. In other words, God of War 2 is a pretty game but not much of a technical show peice when compared to games like Resident Evil 4 and Rogue Squdren 2.

I can't wait to see factor 5's wii game,

The sad thing is that people ignore the good looking games and use bad ones to argue.

I think Factor 5s game will look as good as allot of the games made on PS360. They did talk about what the Wii cold do with the engine they have created. I can’t wait to see what they have just for the grafix and the reactions of idiots just for the lols :P

Poor Squilliam, falling for the classic trap that kills more developers than anything else: the "keeping up with the Jonses" trap.

Let me explain this in a fashion that will hopefully make sense: developers do not decide what direction technology advances, consumers do. If your product holds no value to consumers, consumers will not buy it, and thus will not fund your technological advances. The consumer, not the manufacturer, is king. And if the consumer wants games on the Wii, then that's where developers have to go if they want to survive in the long run.

While it is still early in this disruption and the previous market iteration still holds some value, that market iteration has been under considerable strain. This is due, among other things, to exactly what Squilliam is touting: the rat-race-like attempts to keep up with and out-develop other developers with more and more expensive solutions to what amounts to a very simple problem: keeping people entertained. A market where development costs are perpetually on the rise cannot last forever. Eventually, the market breaks apart.

You obviously didn't read #2 - Return on investment.

Tease.

You obviously did not read my point 2: that the return on investing in the incumbent market is getting increasingly small. Why would you NOT invest in an emerging and consumer-popular piece of hardware in light of ever-rising costs and ever-shrinking returns in the incumbent market?
