In the J man's opinion, Third party developers are always better than first party developers. Capcom , epic , EA(just whats left of bioware) ,square , 2k guys , rockstar , bethesda , infinity wards ,valve are all producing top quality games that are over shadowing exclusives. What first party rpg can compete with what comes out of bethesda or square? What shooter this gen can beat what valve and cod 4 have to offer?

Exclusives are always nice but when there is a better game in the same genre that is multiplat it kinda seems pointless to even care about them. Im all for exclusives though but seriously its kinda hard to be excited for them when there are better multiplat games out there

most of them are HD consoles exclusive..... to take a page out of our fellow xbox fans here. ;)

With PS360 being so similar (comparing with Wii), it's not hard for the developers to score 2 birds with one stone.

 

Of course, let's not forget another very important issue..... HD console owners REWARD good games with high sales number and punish those who failed to deliver.

 

 

More incentive for developers to put extra effort into making games.

Yeah, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Gears, Resistance, Metroid, Ratchet, Banjo, MGS, Mario Kart, Mass Effect, all don't exist.

It might not be first-party but CD Projekt, Mythic, Blizzard, Turbine, Obsidian, ArenaNet and Turbine studios are all making better RPGs than Bethesda and Square Enix.

- CD Projekt developed The Witcher (2007 RPG of the Year)

- Mythic is making it's own legend with Warhammer Online

- Blizzard is self-explanatory (World of Warcraft and Diablo 3)

- Also Obsidian developed Neverwinter Nights 2, and though NWN2 wasn't so amazing, the expansion Mask of the Betrayer had easily the best game story of 2007

- Turbine Studios also had a great breakthrough with Lord of the Rings Online

- ArenaNet is busy with Guild Wars 2!

 

As for shooters, true, the most of the best ones are multiplat.

Seriously the only game there thats the best in its genre is mario and smash bros everything else there is a better game that is multiplat. Im not saying that the games are bad but just not as good as some other games

some of the games on there aren't really AAA quality at all.


And frankly, there are a lot more AAA multi than AAA exclusive. The trait will continue next year with FFXIII and BioShock2.

Really?

 Mario Galaxy is pretty unique.
 Super Smash Bros is its own style/genre
 Name a better cover based TPS than gears?
 Resistance is a AAA FPS game...
 Ratchet - ToD and Q4B are second to none this gen imo... though others might argue Mario Galaxy is better...
 MGS4 - really, a multiplat better than MGS4? and in the same genre? Im sorry but MGS4 is a AAA or AAAA game and it has NO competition this generation.
 Mario Kart - Find me a better kart racer...
