Some make purchases based a friend's opinion, rather than a critics. Someone makes a purchasing decision off of a preview, rather than a review. Someone makes a purchasing decision based off of an advertisement.
IGN has shown how little their reviews affect sales, I'd dig up the study if I weren't so lazy. Review scores are mostly for fanboys like us to fight about.
I'd say quality affects sales more than a journalist's opinion of that quality.

A respectable opinion. I feel the same way about Fable II, lol. I don't care if it's 8 hours long. I like Molly, his games have always been original and have managed to take me to another world, despite their flaws, and even if Fable II sucked(it won't), I'd pay him 60 bucks in tribute, for being a developer who has his own style, and forges his own path, to make games with his own personal flavor and heart in mind. He's a good man, and I support him in all his endevors.
