Forums - Nintendo - dsi= fail here's why

Hmm I think the OP was right about the camera... it is actually only 0.3 MP, not 3.0. That's a 640x480 image, btw... just the right size for a Wii 480p screen, but pretty small if you're going to put those pics anywhere else.

The price is too high as well... above the PSP even.  I hope they keep the DSLite on the market.  Is the 0.25" extra screen and the low-quality camera, with a reduced battery and no GBA BC, worth it?

I was on the ropes about the DSi until I saw the Japanese press conference, the new DS will come with software to allow you to play your AAC music and actually play around with it, slow it down, speed it up, change the pitch, single out one part of a song like vocals or guitar (great function for music players on the go wanting to get a riff in their head or only hear like a trombone part in a song)  then the camera not only takes pictures but has it's own photo editing to it, they even have things like hats you can stamp onto a picture while before you take it meaning the camera has head tracking and facial recognition so the hat will follow their head.  Then it'll also have an application to where you can take pictures you've drawn or taken and make them into like a stop animation clips with sound, and those sounds can be recorded through the DS's mic or sounds you have on your DS, so while you're sitting on the subway you could sit there and draw some stuff, and add sound to it just for fun.

And on top of all that it has superior wireless capabilities, it can browse the web faster, has its own DS ware, has an application to automatically detect download stations, in japan they're starting them at McDonalds, and a lot of DS to Wii wireless linking.

So there could possibly be dowloadable GB, GBC, and GBA games so no GBA support? Hardly it'll support a lot more with DS ware and hopefully it's own version of the virtual console.  So worth the upgrade?  Very much so.

Just for the record.... that's two cameras. One of them is 3.0 megapixels while the other is 0.3, unless I have read incorrectly.

Only the person who use gba slot for piracy does not like DSi

Pirates go out of ds yours r4 and m3 hurt the better console in the history
I hope when someone put a r4 in DSi this explode and you die

Argh, enough already, I don't wanna regret the DSLite I'm buying later today -_-

it costs too much=aleady a fail

launchs with 2 colors why not copy the colors of ds lite

the cameras horrible

the sreen size increase is pointless come on .25 more inches

NO GBA SLOT

This thread fails.

You need to look at the *new* capabilities of the DSi (over the DS), and they are significant - not cherry pick random facts (and make incorrect conclusions):

1/ it costs too much=aleady a fail

The DS is selling like hotcakes, and this only costs 10%-15% more (and less than a PSP) - for all the new features.

2/ launchs with 2 colors why not copy the colors of ds lite

The DS lite launched with ONE colour :P. Launching with more than 2 colours would just be silly, it would impact the manufacturing capacity of the DSi at launch.

3/ the cameras horrible

How so, have you USED them? A 3MP camera (external) is better than many phones or other devices - and is more than enough IMO. 300kP should be enough for video chat (more than enough!).

4/ the sreen size increase is pointless come on .25 more inches

Yeah, bigger screens always equate to "fail" :P Now a smaller screen, THAT would be an improvement ;)

5/ NO GBA SLOT

Meh, I really don't care. I have clocked hundreds of hours on my DS - and less than 1% using the GBA slot (if that). I don't have a single game that requires it.

...

The only negative so far on the DSi (and the most important) is the battery life - something you failed to mention. And I'm still sure there is some "secret" to that (like keeping the WiFi always active, and acting as booster/bounce stations or something).

The music controls, the cameras, the appstore, the new built-in functionality - win all the way.

(PS - I was using my DS today, and realised just how significant the changes to the "underside" of the device are - it may now be missing screw points completely, and might be *impossible* to open once manufactured - without a saw anyway :P Not certain of this at all, but it would be a heavy strike against piracy/homebrew if true)

I agree with all you said Shams, despite the battery life.

Look people, the DSi has 5 different brightness settings, while the DS Lite only has 4. Now in the official information sheet the additional setting is listed as "normal" setting but honestly, would it make sense for Nintendo to not increase the maximum brightness of the screen? It definitely wouldn´t and I think it is safe to assume that the maximum brightness setting of the DSi will be brighter than the one on the DS Lite. Maximum DS Lite setting should be comparable to "high" DSi setting and the difference between those two in battery life is only 1 hour or so. The hour lost probably comes from the increased screen size so that wouldn´t make sense.

The specs do make it seem pretty pointless for anyone who already owns a current gen handheld.

Other than price I really don't see it failing....
