Forums - Gaming - DS vs PSP upgrades

Hmm the DSi looks interesting but im not going to get one just yet since it loses the ability to play GBA games (from what i have heard) and reduced battery life.

I do find it interesting though as Nintendo appears to be positioning the DSi as their new handheld, its full of new features and games that will only only work on it (DSiWare) -- its almost really quite interesting, and i wonder how SONY and others will react.

Why would Sony react?

The DSi is everything that the PSP was three years ago.  Photo viewing?  Check.  MP3 playback?  Check.  Removable storage?  Check.  Downloadable games, demos and the like?  Check.  Lower battery life?  Check.  (lol).  Internet Functionality?  Check.  Camera?  Check.  Store to download games/demos/etc?  Check.

I don't really see how Sony should react.  It has everything the DSi has (aside from the touch screen, obviously) and more with Video Playback, Skype, and still, a much better screen among other things.

Not to downplay the DSi or anything, as I do believe that it is nice for DS only owners, and I do want to get a DS, for the mountanous amount of software it has, but there's nothing for Sony to react to.

Double post.

@DMeisterJ - SONY will react to this because music playback, web browser, etc were features PSP used to attract consumers...

Remember PSP sales a healthy hardware wise but preety bad when it comes to software. Therefore we must assume people are pirating PSP games and using the handhelds multimedia features... but would those people rather a DSi or a PSP-3000? ever person who then chooses DSi over PSP is a potional PSP customer lost.

** Note i don't expect SONY to announce a new PSP or anything - yet - but SONY hit back with something... be it more games, new features or even silence until the next PSP is announced SONY will do something.

Yes, and the old DS outsold it by double or so.   PSP has almost no unique features left anymore.  Nobody cares about movies.

I don't know where I said the DS Lite didn't outsell the PSP.

It pwned it.

Also, I don't remember where I said that anyone cared about movies.

So what is the point of replying to your post.  You prove my point that this was a pretty dumb update when you're constantly pwning your competitor with none of the features they have.

The DSi IMO will still be watched as a more softcore PMP... I dont think the PSP will loose many potential buyers because of this upgrade. Also, the camera on the new DS has a pathetic resolution... common, why didnt they just put one and made it at least 2 MP?

One on cover rated at 3.0 Megapixels, interior is 0.3 megapixels...I need to find the exact source. Also PSP just lost me as potential buyer...now I have no idea when I am getting a psp. Maybe PSP 4000. (That is if the new DS can be a MP3 Player)

Yeah. I would like to know the source on that. I really want know if the SD is going to support SDHC? And how much memory did they put in it that stores apps?

Everything supports SDHC nowadays. SD could be firmware upgrade to SDHC, too.
