Just had an argument with my cousin over the Wii, PS3, DS.

Cous: What's New??
Me: My DS
Cous: You have a DS? I hate those. I prefer the gameboy. Ever since
          the DS was created Nintendo has gone downhill for me.
Me: Fail
Cous: NO
Me: You don't explain why they went downhil for you in the handheld department
       There for you fail....

Cous: I don't like the DS. Do I pass now???
ME: You don't like the ds... WHY???? And I don't remember you owning a Home
        console from nintendo.... so no idea why you instantly hate the Wii either...
Cous: I thought you hated the Wii
Me: I dont hate the Wii
Cous: OH HELL NO
Me: I hate it's software Library, not the system
Cous: The whole thing is an insult to gaming
Me: HOW??? If it was an insult it wouldn't be kicking the PS3 and 360's buts WW
       right now....
Cous: It cannot match the godly power of the ps3. And I don't want to make 600
       different moves when I can just press a button
Cous: COme on...

Me: Power does not = fun. Yes the ps3 has a powerfull CPU, but who's using it????

Me: And how many AAA exclusives does it have???? i'll tell you... ONE. A game that you
       don't even want to play [MGS4]. While the Wii has 4.
Me: More fun?????? HAH
Cous: Who Cares
Me: You do... And you can't prove the ps3 is more fun. How many major Wii games have
       you played?????

Cous: I've played the Wii
Cous: I HATED IT
Me: That wasn't my question......

Cous: I've played..... MANY. Including  all of the SSB's

Me: HAH. There is only 1 on the Wii.... so what do you mean by "all", and just how many??

       if Nintendo didn't take the Wii route and instead just went the N64/GC route
       this gen would have been the same as last, just more hype over graphics in the beginning
       and we don't see anything interesing until 4 years in the GEN
     
       Nintendo Brings innovative HW, SONY only truly brings innovative SW to match powerfull HW
Cous: They could have followed the ps360 route....
          and the 64 is KING OF CONSOLES...
Me: they are the same route genius.... and the N64 was outsold by the ps1 more than 3:1
       So once again... you fail......

       N64 - Little over 30M....
       the sales figures tell me other wise.... and wtf.... you owned a ps1... not and never had a n64...


I won't go any further... but he basically hates the DS because it has a touch screen and the Wii because it doesn't have high end graphics and has motion controller.....

The only Wii games he "CLAIMS" to have played are the:

SSSB - You don't need to use motion controlls....
Naruto COTN - No need for motion controlls, and he even admits that he likes it when he played it with GC
controller which I told him was an option for most Wii games to begin with.....



EDIT: The problem is not him hating it. It's that he [in the past] has bugged me for liking them.
          Although he cannot give a single decent reason as to why they are so bad..... If he
          wouldn't bug me, then I probably wouldn't have Cared so much.

Hating the Wii is still cool, in certain circles (and I'm thinking of jumping on the bandwagon while it's still trendy!). But hating the DS? Did your cousin just step out of 2005?

Hmm ya, mostly teenagers, sometimes even younger. (I'm talking about the hate on DS)

Edit: OP, I bet if your cousin could he would buy an Iphone! (trust me his hate is with Nintendo not the touch screen)

I like the PSP much more, but I don't hate the DS. I am just bored of touch screen gaming at this point and prefer (imo) better controls and better graphics and sound and bigger screen and lower prices that the PSP offers. I never liked motion controls to begin with, but I don't know if I like Wii or 360 better. Wii remote was a letdown, but perhaps Wii motion plus will make the Wii mote how I anticipated it originally being. (used PSP games I want are much cheaper than used DS games I want)

It was actually over MSN and then Yahoo messenger. But yeah, still pretty funny.

First person I have heard of hating the DS people don't like it but hating it...

If the man hates, then let him hate, doesn't mean you have to be harsh on the guy, does shutting him down mean that he'll change his mind? nope. If he believes a certain way then it'll be very difficult to change that opinion.

I personally dislike the Wii, over-reliance on Nintendo's first party because they are too stubborn (some say arrogant) to buy 3rd party support, which in turn hurts it's core gamer group. This burns us even more when Nintendo gets it's best worker to create a (non)game called Wii Music.

It's not about being a money hungry behemoth and moneyhatting, it's about doing whats right by their consumers who have stuck by them through the dark years of the N64 and Gamecube years.

You are correct though, if they did the same thing they did for the last 2 generations, Nintendo would probably be dead by now (or on life support because of DS), but they've replaced hype for graphics with hype for waggle.

People buy the thing because it's supposed to be new and innovative and it's "in" like the apple macs/ipod were "in", not because of X game (which is as bad as the sony/360 fanboys who refuse to buy the other console no matter how good the games library is just because it's from that company).

I love my DS though, just not a huge fan of the way Nintendo approached the Wii (even though it was a brilliant move on their part in terms of making money).

Take a new approach: What are his three favourite genres? Since you frequent this site, you should be able to name a few very high-quality examples. Show him some of your DS games, and basically rape his argument.

For the Wii, he seems like a lost cause...

You like the Wii but don't like the games- thats the opposite of me. The Wii remote was a huge letdown and frustration for me, as are the graphics. I really like several Wii games though. I think the Wii would have been more fun if it went PS360 route;

I love the N64 and GC was a blast too. Wii is good because it ensures Nintendo's survival, but I really dislike Nintendo this gen compared to previous gens, and I guess your cousin does too. He lost the argument because he knows less about gaming than you do.
