Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Prediction: Wii Music will NOT be the next great thing

A few thoughts

Sales of this game will top 5M -- 3M Japan, 1M Americas, 1M Others

What is being missed is the cultural differences and marketing differences. This game obviously appeals to different sensibilities and different people than other "games." And that will help it sell.

Also, the fact that it is a music experience without having to hit every note perfectly will help differentiate from the other five music games on the Wii -- DDR, Samba de Amigo, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Guitar Revolution.

As for NYANKS comment about frustration -- what frustrates people is when songs shut down halfway through GH because they didn't hit the right note enough or didn't know to hit the strum bar. This game will be fun for the pre-tween and the super-senior set.

(IF you don't think there is money in kids music, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Might_Be_Giants -- an alternative rock band that also records for Disney or the career arcs of Lisa Loeb, Dan Zanes, or Laurie Berkner. Children's music is actually much much better than when I was young -- it is real music rather than "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt).

Tuoyo is right again. It think it will reach the 10 M mark however.

It's not really a game but a glorified noisemaker. It has less appeal to me than Wii Fit or Wii Sports ever did when they were announced. But none of that means it won't sell, it just means the Wii series is moving even further away from my particular tastes.

Hell a lot of similar "hardware-centric" products (ie: toys) sell bunches at toy stores. This will no doubt still do well.

You have to admit that every other game up to this point requires something of the person playing.  This simply requires waving your arms.  I mean, it's just this side of being non-interactive.  I mean, look out your window and wave your arms while people move outside. It's close to that.  I would expect a good amount of even small children, to be frustrated by their actions having little consequence in the game.

Waving your arms =/= doing something? And your movements DO effect how the song plays out, it effects the tempo. The people outside aren't going to slow down or speed up in sync with my arm movements. The drum mini-game use buttons, motions, and the balance board for more a specfic set-up.

There's nothing wrong with not being interested in Wii Music or down right disliking it. But trying to justify your dislike by trying to pretend it's devoid of any interaction is simply foolish. You might not find the interaction meaningful to you, and again there's nothing wrong with that.

@ vaio - Yeah we should do a contest together or something when it comes out. My family really don't have plans for Christmas this year so I'll probably have some extra money to burn this holiday season.

I think people buy this game just for the drum simulator. Its actually cool even on Nintendo E3 2006...

Simplifying a concept does not make it worse, incidentally. Anybody remember simulation games before SimCity? If not, there's a good reason why: they were all far too complex for most people to grasp and enjoy. Many of them required a bit of actual knowledge about how to do things like fly a plane or drive a race car. They weren't fun, in other words, because you had to learn something before you could get to the good parts.

Then SimCity appeared. It was mocked by simulation buffs as "lame" and "childish". But it outsold pretty much every simulation game out there because it brought simulation to the masses. You didn't need to know anything about planning a city to make a SimCity. You just had to plop some stuff down and watch it grow. And if it got boring, you could spice it up a bit by activating a disaster.

The moral of the story is, don't listen to the hardcore when a simple product comes out. They're not the target audience, and they won't see the true value of the product because they get caught up in the differences.

LOL how will you sell a rhythm game without rhythm at all? You just flail your arms to make notes. Thats not what rhythm games are all about. AND YEAH, I did say rhythm games because thats they are. Rhythm games. Even you call them music games, video games cant generate music...

Im telling this in a practical standpoint not to say about the philosophical standpoint of it like casuals, core, fun, family, competitiveness and all that. Its just simple, Wii Music wasnt a rhythm game so you cant consider it a music game in a video game standpoint. You just flail you arms all around THATS IT...

Have you played the game?

Do I have to? You cant tell by watching the vids alone? How will you choose a videogame if its shovelware or not if you dont know by watching alone? BTW how will you simulate a clarinet with just 2 buttons or you can make a perfect notes by just pressing a?

So in other words you are just trolling this game cause you don´t like it. We have only seen some vids and they only show very little about actuall gameplay and somehow I think it´s Nintendo´s strategy to not show how you really play it so people get curious about the game and it works since it´s getting more attention the Wiifit.

This game may be total shit and utter crapfest but Nintendo almost never dissapoints and I give them the benefit of the dought.

I am interested in this game for many reasons, I would like to play music but I can´t play instruments so this game interests me on that level, I want different gaming experiences and this game seems to be delivering on that, I want to be able to play cool songs with my friends which again this game seems to deliver.

If you can then record your songs and send them to other friends then this would actually be a great game.

PS -- Tonight should be interesting. He wants to play Defend Your Castle.

PPS -- Wii Music will have more substance than Happy Family. But that would not be hard.

What does PS and PPS stand for?

PS means postscript, and PPS means post-postscript. Postscript literally means "after the message". It's a note to tell you something else not in the body of the main message, but usually related to it.

It may not flop, and I'm fine with Wii owners wanting an alternative experience in gaming with the Wiimote and how the Wii is supposed to be a revolution, but this game just bothers me. I mean, I don't think it even meets the parameters of a game. There is no point to the game. You don't beat anthing, you don't need to learn any controls, and there is no challenge (from what people have said.) Isn't that like playing air guitar, except it costs money?

It was designed as a music toy.  It is not a game.  Miyamoto said so himself.

If you don't want a toy, then don't buy this game.  I will not be buying it.

This toy was designed to appeal to young children mostly.  It might also appeal to music nuts, and those who don't like Guitar Hero or Rock Band for some reason.

OK THEN I'll give this a game a benefit of a doubt too, lets just see what happens maybe I could be wrong. Maybe this is a fun too like what you said but we cant really tell. We just might have to wait.

Thanks, I actually knew the function of PS but never knew what it actually meant.

Wii Music is nothing new as in nothing new as far as products made by Nintendo, remember DK Bongo. Yea, Nintendo pretty much tested Wiifit, Wiisports and a few other titles long before the announcements of Wii music.

Then it's safe to say there nothing unpolished about this game, this game isn't new to Nintendo and they already know how much it will sell. At this point they have a gauge on the markets size for this game what they don't know is how much larger the market can get, after this game then the revolution begins. Sadly that's all very scarily true.

Which ever developers don't acquire mind share by 2009 will probably have one of three endings: PC Developmentor HDC Development or they become no more.

Well not litterally just how they view the making of video games.
