No because the PSP did well in Japan before Monster Hunter. Also Monster Hunter wasn't the only reason why the PSP got a boost in Japan. And Tales of Symphonia didn't do it for the GC so why would Vesperia do it for the 360? There are just too many reasons why it won't be like MOnster Hunter was to the PSP.

Not to mention it's selling signifficantly less than other console Tales games, including the spinoff game on Wii.

Could that not also be because it happens to be on the 360, assuming you're talking about Japan?

The 360 needs more than one game to win in Japan. Just because any single game doesn't win the console war for the 360, and match sales records for a series set by the PS2, doesn't mean the game is a failure, if that's what you were implying.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Wait, the new TOS game is a spinoff? I don't know much about the series but I thought it was a main game like the TOS was for GC, or was that TOS game a spinoff too?

It's a main game, and only the third game from the, imo, premier developer at Namco, Team Symphonia, which made Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss before their most recent outing, Vesperia. It's also considered by many to be the best Tales game yet, including Gamespot and Famitsu, both of whom said as much in their reviews.

It's funny as these games are always the best of the best as long as they are exclusive to the XB360. Eternal Sonata was the same, it was the best, it had very good reviews with 85 from Gamespot and 35/40 from Famitsu (Wow! It must be better than Tales Of Vesperia!).
Now it's improved on PS3 and XB360 fans say Eternal Sonata is shit.
Excuse me if I don't believe in Gamespot and Famitsu hyperbole (well, actually, I don't believe in reviews since years).

Anyway, this may be a very good Tales Of, which I don't doubt, but it won't help the XB360 in Japan. What I see is that instead, XB360 just killed the game in Japan.
Well, don't get me wrong, this is all Namco's fault.

It wont bring back 360 to live, because it was never as succesful as the PSP. But it will certainly help MS to get a foothold in Japan, which would be a success for them.

See, the thing about Eternal Sonata, and the recent decline in favor among Xbox 360 is:

More JRPGs came out on the X360 since Eternal Sonata, and we were able to stop kidding ourselves about the game. It's hard to judge next-gen JRPGs when all you have are Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, PSU, and Enchanted Arms.

Now we have Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, and the Atlus SRPGs....It allows for a more valid comparison.

Don't worry, Playstation 3 owners will get to buy ES soon and see exactly what the complaints are. It's an OK game (I'd give it a 7.75-8.0 thanks to the multiplayer), but when you can compare it to ToV and LO, it doesn't stack up very well.

@OP: Time will tell. Microsoft dropped the ball when it came to shipments, so it's hard to sale if ToV really will change the Xbox 360's patterns. Up till now, it has, but it's also been supply constrained.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Nope. No one game can or will save a console. However, price drops, bundles, and HUGE games hitting at the same time could have significant long term effects.
