I thought this was coming in 2007, guess not. Look good, tho tbh I'm not enough of a graphics whore to be able to distinguish between all the pretty games. :P

Here come the nintendo boys. The sun hath' come up, so the Wii-bots are frothing. Killzone sucks now. They said so.

Is it just me, or has Kwaad said the most negative things about this game than anyone else in this thread? (albeit sarcastically)

The game looks good so far (although i didn't like the screens posted in the previous page of the close up on the two guys' faces as much as the others, however i'm not sure if that is new or old, the textures are well done though)

I can't wait to see what new features this game has to offer in terms of innovative FPS gaming, i'm sure Sony has more in the hat than this, quite obviously, stunning graphical gameplay

Is a first person cover system (I think that's what it has) innovative? Apart from graphics and effects, I'm looking for the immursive experience of the game and seeing as IGN (I think it was IGN) described it similar to Call of Duty where there are bullets and crap going everywhere and how crazy a game like COD2 sounds on the PC in areas such as the D-Day (and Hill 400) levels, I am pretty hopeful that it can deliver on that aspect. However, I just hope they didn't take any advice from Call of Duty 3, I hated the way the story was told and I didn't feel a thing for any of the characters when they try to make a serious moment.

The real kicker ought to be the resolution it can run and how it performs at that frame rate. If they nail down a smooth frame rate at 1080p, I will come home on weekends from college just to play it on the HDTV.

I have to say, I am really impressed and I don't even like Killzone.

Killzone is TBA 2007, if you go to gametrailers it says it will be released in 07, sony wants to counter the halo launch, they want halo to look like an utter failure compared to killzone.

Hmm, I thought I saw it was coming in '08, but that works too if it's feasible. Isn't there the talk of a multi-player beta and stuff going on too?

I really hope that the 10-15 minute run of the level is available to download in video form so we can see what those people did this morning.

No leo-j Sony announced it's a 2008 title in a press release about the game.

The Ultimate First-Person Shooter Emerges, Introducing Players To An Intense 'Theater Of War' With KillzoneTM 2 For PLAYSTATION®3

Highly Anticipated Follow-Up to the Top-Selling KillzoneTM Delivers Next-Gen Gameplay, Stunning High Definition Graphics, and Ultra-Realistic Combat

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 11, 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced the 2008 release of Killzone™ 2, available exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system. Developed by Guerrilla Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment, Killzone 2 throws players back into the midst of a hostile and dramatic ongoing battle between the ISA and Helghast army. Following events and action from the original Killzone for PlayStation®2, Killzone 2 sets a new standard for next-gen gaming by delivering intense warfare with incredibly lifelike character animations, highly detailed and destructible environments, realistic physics, and advanced levels of artificial intelligence (A.I.).

Unveiled for the first time Tuesday evening at an exclusive media event in Santa Monica, the Killzone 2 demo awed guests with action-packed sequences full of detail and game variety, sure to draw players right into the heart of battle. Once again set in an extreme post-modern war, Killzone 2 utilizes the power of PLAYSTATION 3 to deliver a striking graphical style that showcases a gritty realism unique to the Killzone franchise.

“There have rightly been high expectations for Killzone 2 since we shared the vision for the title back in 2005,” said Phil Harrison, president, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. “Guerrilla have worked hard to focus the power of PLAYSTATION 3 to realize their true vision for the game. With incredible action, drama-fueled gameplay sequences, and a vast array of weapons and vehicles, Killzone 2 defines a new benchmark of our industry.”

Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA is bringing the fight to the enemy’s home world of Helghan. Taking the role of Sev, the battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit known as the Legion, players will embark upon a mission to the planet Helghan to capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the enemy’s war machine to a halt. For Sev and his squad, the invasion of Helghan is just the beginning. Tasked with securing Pyrrhus, the Capital City, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy on their home planet. Not only have they adjusted to the planet’s hostile conditions, they have also harnessed a source of power from the environment that can be used against the ISA. Sev and his team soon discover the fight is greater than simply addressing the enemy forces; the Legion must also learn how to handle the effects of the fierce enemy planet.

With an extensive, story-driven single-player mode and thrilling multiplayer mode, Killzone 2 offers a host of new elements that caters to both hardcore and casual gamers alike. The game features highly atmospheric environments that respond accurately to weapon fire as players storm through the world of Helghan. The harsh climate and conditions of Helghan are also a factor, forcing players to adapt new tactics to survive. Proprietary tools and technology such as deferred rendering techniques are implemented to create advanced effects, such as ultra-vivid and detailed character animations and environments. Advanced cinematic effects are used to provide unprecedented visuals, including motion blur, internal lens reflections, and depth-based color grading that will let players experience gameplay that is sharp, detailed, and vibrant. Additionally, Killzone 2 supports 7.1 surround with location-specific audio, providing players the opportunity to experience sound and music that are not only dynamic but in context to indoor and outdoor locations.

Overall I was not impressed. For people who claim to be more interested in graphics than anything, this doesn't look close to Gears. The cloth effects were especially dull, the armor detail as well.

The art style looked generic, but on the plus side the lighting was very impressive, and so were the facial expressions. The video is Alpha stages so I wouldn't be surprised to see it improved on up to Gears level or better. Truthfully for an alpha build it's very impressive.

The thing I'm concerned about: It just looks like a shooter. The art style is too generic (do we really need more greys and blacks people?) and there have been no unique features announced to set it apart from other shooter games. I'm worried Sony forgot about all that and said "hell, who cares, if the graphics look great people will buy it anyway."

2008? The list for 2007 is getting thin.
