Forums - Sony - Kingdom Hearts the game that fools you into thinking that it's amazing

I can understand many people's points when they say it's just a button masher and that's true to an extent but then that's usually what Action RPGs are (or at least the one's I've played....which isn't many).

As for use of magic, I used it a fair amount, less so in KH1 by the end as I'd level up to 100 playing the Colleseum over and over, but the wind shield was a great magic. In KH2, I use lightning and gravity a lot and even reflect. Each having their advantages, lightning stops enemies and makes them jump in the air (KH1 and 2) most enemies need to be grounded to attack, also doing 3 lightnings the third is .5 strong then the others buy the looks of it in KH2. Reflect does exactly that and in a tight situation, you can do a lot of damage to enemies, i mainly use this again the FF characters in the Coleseum in KH2. Gravity is great because it puts all the enemies in one place so your keyblade swings just hit them all. But maybe I am the except to the rule. Of coruse i use the short cuts. I use summons and limits at times 2, only mainly Genie as his is quite powerful and takes off energy quickly.

But then I'll start repeating myself the next time a threa bout this comes up...in about a week.

How can you dis a game series that has Billy Zane and Christohper Lee in them as voice actors? But then I don't think it's amazing, jsut very very good.

Hmm, pie.

@OP: I always found Kingdom Hearts to be crap, it is childish, shallow, boring and has no soul, it reminds me of Harry Potter in many ways and it is several kinds of useless.
The names and the concept alone sends shivers down my spine; Gummy Ship?! I'm not 10 years old anymore (despite having retained the mental age of one) so it won't fly for me.

PS: Lol, Soriku is gonna hate me forever, I just ragged both his favourites...
We all have different opinions (luckily, or there would never be debate or colours in life) and the above is my honest one.

Square has been downhill since the Spirits Within.

Kingdom Hearts is Overrated. Final Fantasy needs to just die. Infinite Undiscovery is perhaps one of the most embarassing things to come out this generation. And even when they did make good games most of them that weren't final fantasy were forgetable casualties of mediocrity.

Square-Enix has talent, but they're not the same company that made these kind of games work in the past. They need to realize they can't keep following in the footsteps of something they no longer are.

That title belongs to Ninja Breadman.  BTW, IU is made by Tri-Ace, not Square-Enix.  Go blame them for the game not being as good as it could of been

Was anyone expecting anything from Ninja Breadman though?

Well... let's hope Tri-Ace doesn't screw up Star Ocean then... though from what I heard from many fans' opinion of the last one there's not much too live up to, though like Kingdom Hearts it has its own following.

I hate most Final Fantasy games (too long winded and i hate turned based games) and when KH came out I was really unsure, but the one factor that won me over was the DISNEY inclusion. Nostalgia hit me good and hard, reminiscing playing the good old snes, master system and mega drive games like fantasia, mickey mania and donald duck games.

I came home and knowing this game might be aimed at children (DISNEY characters), but realised it had a little more depth.

Granted it isn't the most original or greatest stories told, but considering it's Disney magic with a hint of SE magic, it became a story worth while seeing through (far better then majority of FPS stories). I enjoyed the game and appreciated it for offering me a trip down memory lane as well as making it enjoyable and fun.

The problem I still can't figure out is who this game is aimed at. At times it is far too simple and feels as if it is aimed at kids, but certain elements within the game are for a older audience. The balance of 2 imo is not quiet right.

Is it the great game? Hell no it's not, but it is still a good game. Overrated maybe, but it doesn't disappoint that badly (e.g. LAIR, TOO HUMAN etc) either. In fact, it is far from disappointment and step away from perfection.

Overrated Games that really need to be looked into again and re-reviewed are the likes of GTA. The crappiest most hollow experience in gaming ever. In fact i will talk about it more in depth in a new topic :p feel free to join and voice your opinions. KH maybe overrated, but not by more then a pinch.

As for it not being successful had it not been Disney... you probably are right, but then again disappointed with the new batman film. had it not been for batman being present in the film, it would just have been another crime buster film. It didn't feel like a batman film at all. The same can be said about the countless Mario spin offs made. They wouldn't probably get another look if it wasn't for the inclusion of Mario. The same can be said about the new Mortal Kombat game (a highly overrated fighting series), if it wasn't for the inclusion of DC, would anyone even care?

Lets just hope KH3 more depth in its fight mechanics. That's all that is needed to make the game become perfect imo.

I must suck... I healed alot when fighting Sephiroth and Cloud.

On these points, I think you are right. Although, neither KH main games have received almighty acclaim from critics, infact...hey, What happened to the Edge Magazine Reviews Database?...oh well. But as far as I knew while Reviewers gave it high marks, there are many that didn't and it seems more of a fanbase that rate it real highly. But like you say, it's overatedness is nothing in comparison to some games, GTA or Halo in my view.

On the what it si aimed for, another agreement from me, adding that when I first played KH, it was diffcult enough and by the end Sora was powerful but I still struggled against Sephiroth. But then I decided after playing normal to try 'hard' and I got my arse handed to me in Traverse Town. I was well into my teens playing it, and it's no kids game in difficulty, Story and characters might seem so but gameplay is far from that.

Hmm, pie.

Overrated? KH1, perhaps. KH2 is a true and pure masterpiece.

Also, FF cameos>Disney.

OK, TC, I reiterate my challenge. You said you got up to Hollow Bastion and then stopped. I challenge you to play one more level -just one- and if after playing that level you still hold the opinion you do now then I'll shut up.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I liked them both... they where neither masterpieces IMO but they where pretty damn entertaining :) Now where the hell is BBS SE?

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Believe what you will.....I think the title for most overhyped game goes to Halo.
