Forums - Sony Discussion - New 80GB PS3 Gives Us The Cold Shoulder

I thought you meant all the people complaining have a list of games that aren't working. I know of Sony's compatibility list.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Review before posting: http://vgchartz.com/forum/rules.php

What would butt hurt me is if I had just bought the ps3 and the only two good games, resistance and motorstorm. Now I could have spent $60 less money and got 20 more gigs.

My PS3 is backwards compatible with every ps2 game I've tried. I have a UK launch version and it does NOT have an EE. They are increasing the compatibility regularly, they have admitted its not a priority, nor should it be as they are still fully supporting the PS2, unlike any other manufacturer.

Tho to be fair, I could give a rats ass about backwards compatibility, I have my old ps2 if I ever wanted to play one of the older games again if it didn't work with the PS3.

Thank you.

This thread topic was biased.

There is no "gimp" version of the PS3 now.  You either want motorstorm or you don't.  You're not going to pay $100 for 20GB if you don't want motorstorm.  The backwards compatibility is not as bad as microsoft's, so people need to stop making it seem like it is.

The 60GB is $500 and that's $100 off.

Do you think it's reasonable to release a model which has 20 GB more, an "old" game which is available for beans 2nd hand, and worse BC than the cheaper model?

If I wanted a PS3 now, I'd buy the 60 GB model just for the BC alone... Maybe that's Sony's strategy to make the cheaper version sell?

All of the PS3s are going in this direction. By the time the new 80GB version hits stores, the 60 GB models will have had their EE chips removed too. If BC is really important to you, but your PS3 now before it's too late!

I don't understand what you mean... Do you think they'll sell all their existing 60 GB stock until August?

If Sony hasn't started to already, I'm sure that they will soon make all PS3s without the EE chip.  So those with the EE will be limited to those on hand.  They may sell out by August or may not.  All depends on supply and demand.  But at some point, even the 60 GB PS3s in the US and Japan will not contain the EE chip.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

Limited is such an evil word. You dont think that firm ware upgrades can make the ps3 fully compatible without the EE chip?

When I used the term limited, I was referring to the number of units.  I said nothing about backwards capability.

This was a long time coming. It's a quick way for Sony to save on the costs and in the long run most people won't care. If you really have to have PS1/PS2 compatibility, go get a PS2.

good point.

similarly, the wii should do away with its GC controllers slots. nobody buys GC games anyway these days, so why bother.

apparently some VC games use them, but it really is a minor issue.

good for 360 that has none of this backward compatibility worries.

I think this is a strange comment. Uh, I have about 30 GC games. And I still play them. And I like using the controllers they games were designed for, as well as I like the GC wavebird controllers better than the classic controller. If it's an issue of not liking to look at the controller slots, then never open the cover. If it's about added cost to the Wii, it's a very low number I am sure, and worth it for those that want to play their GC games with their GC controllers.

If Nintendo put out a true-wireless GCN controller for the Wii that doesn't require an input slot, they could probably slim down the Wii a decent amount.  I could see it working.
