Forums - Sony Discussion - New 80GB PS3 Gives Us The Cold Shoulder

why doesn't people just take the extra $100 they save by buying the 60GB model (which has the EE) and just upgrade the HDD to 250GB? Seriously I just went to Staples web site and they have 250GB SATA drives for $99.

Or just add an external 100+ gig, I got one for $50. Most consumers do not understand these things, then again "most" consumers are not who will be buying a PS3, right now at least. Isn't the 80gb getting the 65nm Cell also?

I'm pretty sure they haven't sized down just yet, but it should be fairly soon.

If they remove the Emotion in the 60 I think I might ditch the PS3. Backwards compatability is a big deal to me.

This was a long time coming. It's a quick way for Sony to save on the costs and in the long run most people won't care. If you really have to have PS1/PS2 compatibility, go get a PS2.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

@Roadkillers: They WILL remove the EE from the 60GB NTSC models too when they sell all the "old" models.

@Andir: You have been in European forums? At least in Finland people constantly complain about removed EE.

 good point.

similarly, the wii should do away with its GC controllers slots.  nobody buys GC games anyway these days, so why bother.

apparently some VC games use them, but it really is a minor issue.

good for 360 that has none of this backward compatibility worries.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Ok... so how many complaints have we heard about the European Software BC up till today? Oh, none. That's right.

On March 20, 2007 Sony released a compatibility list; 1,782 of the 2,451 PS2 games (72%) released in Europe had noticeable issues, minor issues or no known issues, with the remainder being incompatible with the console.

And in the 4 months since then every firmware update has added to the backwards compatibility list.

 Most games are now supported.

Most games work, including all GTs, GTAs, MGSs (except substance), etc.  Don't worry.

What difference does it make if you have one with the Emotion chip already?  I personally looked at that list and over 90% of the games I had worked, or worked with minor issues.  I have over 50 ps2 games as well, so that is not a skewed sample or anything.  It is better than the 360's in any case.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

What is the point with this thread more than pure PS3 bashing?
