@tastyshovelware: Niche? I don't see it more niche than headsets etc. It's only a question about how many games supports it.
Besides, it's more social than headsets.

I won't pass judgment yet cause there's still time until the release, but I am skeptical of its usefulness. For example, let's say you are 10 feet away from your tv and the wii speak is 5 feet away from you, won't the wii speak be feeding not just your own voice, but the sounds of everything around you, including your tv? Since the mic won't have any one dominate audio source, ambient noise could proof to be a major issue. Also, what if your wii is in a bedroom and not an open area with a table where the wii speak can sit? What if you don't want others in the room/household to hear what other gamers are saying?

I think wii speak is a neat idea and good for family activities and the like, but a head set option would also be preferred for core gamers looking to play a game like medal of honor where online gamers tend to be more.... vulgar.

Wiispeak sits on top of the sensor bar and the sound from the TV will not effect it because of noise filtering. However if someone comes in your room and starts talking or a phone rings, the mic will pick that up.

seems like an OK price...

Not saying you're wrong or that you would know the answer to this, but how is that supposed to work?

Essentially noise filtering or cancellation is done by emitting the same pressure as the unwanted soundwave thus reflecting it, mics and speakers have done it for a while. I think they call it Phase Cancellation.

Noise Cancellation, Active Noise Reduction and Antinoise have all been terms used.

Edit: In theory all it would have to do is know what the unwanted noise was and given it's plugged into the system I imagine it could easily tell what sounds the system was processing in it's sound card.

nice,i cant wait for the game

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

I should note my only worry is will the mic use Active or Passive noise filtering methods.. The active ones tend to work better but passive is workable

Well 007 Wii is a must buy if its any good. Ive been waiting for a quality splitscreen shhoter for a while, and the online definetly helps. I hope its set to use the WiiSpeak...

I still dont think ill get COD5, i already have MoHH2, and if there isnt much of a difference, then its not worth $50.

The Wii Speak $30 (USD) price is in the mid-range of headsets for PS3 and Xbox 360.

And has been said, you only have to buy one -- instead of one for each player.

I'm pretty sure the theory Nintendo is using is that WiiSpeak will filter out the sounds coming from the TV using its connection to the Wii. You know, the Wii "tells" it what sound is going through the TV speakers and WiiSpeak subtracts that from all the noise it picks up.

Not saying this is gonna work well (if at all) but I believe that is what they are going for. Personally, if I wanted to use voice chat in games, I'd just wait for a third party to release their own headset, unless this WiiSpeak thing turns out to work amazingly well.
