Forums - Sales - PS3 $100 price drop Sunday

Uh...ok...

If Sony didn't leak it on purpose, then Circuit City is to blame for putting their ad out before anyone else.  Apparently all retailers are going to drop the price but it seems like they are all trying to beat each other to sell HDTVs or whatever else people will buy by going in the store.

Not sure anyone is losing face here.  It's a good move that perhaps Sony wanted to wait to announce at E3.

Btw, trying to make Sony look bad doesn't change the fact that you were wrong about them dropping the price.

My biggest gripe with the PS3 is the fact that the games I want wont be out till 2009... even a $100 price cut wont matter with the current library of games. Now if the 360 gets a $100 price drop that may raise an eyebrow or two... well maybe not until they iron out all the reliability issues. Id hate to go through what my friends went through with thier 360s. But ya the $100 price drop is nice but I think the biggest issue is lack of games. Sony's 1st party games just arent good imho.

Far better than the Wii lineup so far, and now includes many of the best 360 games.  Of course, for me, I'm going to play Gears of War, Lost Planet, Bioshock, and a few others on the PC.

What games are coming out in 2009, though?  FF13 and MGS4 should be out by 2008, so I'm curious what games you mean.  GT5?

Thanks for your opinion, here is mine.  I personally don't want to play games I played a year ago (Oblivion), 3 years ago (Ninja Gaiden), average generic shooters (Resistance, Rainbow Six Vegas and this also falls under games I played a year ago), or a billion sports games (Fight Night, NBA, Tiger Woods, blah blah blah).  In fact, the only game that interests me at all is Motorstorm, and I lost interest in that when I found out there was no split screen (lol unsocial gamers).

Personally, I enjoy on the Wii:  Wii Sports (finally a change to the sports genre), Zelda: Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4 (I played it 2 years ago, but I also didn't pay full price, lol Ninja Gaiden), and Super Paper Mario.  Obviously there aren't enough good Wii games out yet (4 that I care about), but from MY perspective, it's much better than the PS3 lineup.  Opinion is opinion, don't claim yours is fact.

Oops ignore this post :/

Just a point of thought as there is no means of confirming it one way or another. Either way Sony's playing coiy and there being an official price cut is somewhat supportive of my theory. However in them making the distributor look like the one giving the price cut it makes it look all the more like the distributor is trying to liquidate stock. Had Sony officially announced this themselves it could be argued there was something more to the decision. Either way its all speculation, but given Sony's PR track record I see no problem in my thoughts.

Kotaku has a report from both Best Buy and Target that the PS3 will be $499.99.  It's now Sunday, and both BBY.com and Amazon still have it for $599.99.

It won't take effect until after the E3 conference when it's "officially" announced.

What's that got to do with losing face?

The drop is next Sunday, the 15th, not today.

Losing face with the customers, if your actions cast doubt on your product, or your ability to manage it, that's considered a loss of face for the company, a loss of confidence in the product if you will.

Is there anybody else in here that can hear Yoda saying "Begun the price war has" in their head >.> cause I sure as hell can.
