Well. It seems like the brave soul that lost his job over posting about the price cut information was worth it.
At any rate, I'm glad that after 2+ weeks of waiting, the news has finally confirmed the news story I posted. I am glad this proved all the doubters wrong.
This will certainly boost sales for the X360. By how much? We will have to see. But a $199 price point for the Arcade is incredibly good...I may even have to buy another, to ensure my Girlfriend has a system to play her RPGs on.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
Geeez a lot of folks on this site are super sensitive, and what does it matter if the ps3 beats the 360 by 20 or so thousand for the next 3 years, if they don't catch up. Sony drowning the company trying to catch the 360. At Skeezer, It's funny because the wii is kickin both in the azz.
Good stuff. Unlike the last price drop, I'm positive this one is going to be huge. The Arcade's going to become the most popular sku all of a sudden.
My Top 5:
Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger
My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3
and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Yes its true...and I have nothing against the wii, it's great, I might get one soon, if I can get a job.

^_^

ummm.... actually, that would be M$ drowning the company to beat Sony. $6.5 billion loss? Now that my friend, is insanity. Especially considering this price drop will really cut into the meager amount of dough M$ has been making on the Xbox in recent months. Also, what does the Wii have to do with this discussion?
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

How much of that $6.5b has been lost this generation? Why not compare X360 losses vs. PS3 losses? Oh wait, that may destroy your argument :-p
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
Lets see - Arcade: $80 off, and its a 30% cut to the retail price.
Premium $50 off, and its a 15% cut to the retail price.
The Premium now costs 50% more than the Arcade at the relative prices of $200 for the Arcade and $300 for the Premium.
Wheres before the premium cost 25% more than the Arcade at the relative prices of $280 for the Arcade and $350 for the premium.
The difference between them now is quite clear, the Arcade is of unquestionable value when compared, well to anything.
Tease.

Well, without that initial $5 billion loss/investment on the Xbox, the 360 probably wouldn't exist, so it's probably fair to mention.
