Forums - Microsoft - Microsofts 2008 RPG gambit - success or failure?

The increasing large collection of RPGs was the reason why I finally broke down and bought a 360 this summer (and took back the Wii). I have never had any fate in WRPGs, so missing them didn't bother me, but now with JRPGs in the mix, I finally had to realize that maybe two consoles is worth it. I mean chances are I will be only picking up used games No sense of given Microsoft too much money. Since I HATED Oblivion, Fallout 3 doesn't interest me at all and the JRPGs are a wait and see. The only game that I might pick up at retail is Fable 2. I never played the first, but I am interested in its concepts and co-op online play. Used LO and BD will maybe come later when I am through with some of my backlog games that i haven't finished.

I'm just saying...

Here were I live PC gaming is much more significant than any console. I don't think that unknown IPs such as Too Human or LO are going to help a lot. MS should secure Fallout 3 or another game like that and NOT release it on PC. A number of must-have games, good marketing, low prices and I can see the 360 becoming more popular.

First - Ninja Gaiden is not an RPG!
Second - Ninja Gaiden is not a fail. It is one of the best 2008 games IMO.

Yeah, I had a blast with Ninja Gaiden II.  I thought it was a terrific game.  And I also thought I had heard it was selling about like it was expected to sell.

Lol.

Take my love, take my land..

its mostly down to securing support from square enix, they say the want to be multiplatform but they seem to be favouring the 360, then PS3, then the wii.

I think the RPG market is far too small in the west to make any substantial difference. MS probably knew this and weren't expecting much improvement in the west due to their RPGs. Instead they were hoping that the Japanese market would embrace the system, which hasn't happened. That's why the gamble has failed.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

The annoying thing is that Ninja Gaiden 2 is better than Too Human but yet Too Human will probably sell more :(

I think it was meant so that this gen the 360 will see 1 million+ sales and next gen the 720 might be viable. We will have to wait a few years to see if it was worth it:)

So MS has a ten year plan too? It's to finally sell 1 million systems after 10 years in the market.

The problem with that is PC gamers would be upset with Microsoft and the developer for turning their backs on them. If you look back at Gears of War or Mass Effect there was plenty uproar from PC gamers when it was announced the games would be 360 only. Then when they catered to fans by releasing it on PC they were ridiculed by console fans by saying they have no true exclusives.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
