Forums - Sales - Nintendo lying about third party dominance?

There's only 1 way to make a fair comparison.

Wait about 10 years, until there are no 7th gen software sales

Anything put out before then is spin, accept it. Ninty published data for the first 19 months cos it showed them as winning, MS showed for the entire life of the console because that showed them as winning

Anything sells on the Wii. Nintendo do not lie. By the way if a game sells less than a million on the Wii I say that game has flopped. A million seller game on the Wii is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Nintendo presented the numbers in a different way than this article. Why is that so horrible?

- Total third party sales for the Xbox 360 since launch is currently 67,929,999 units, followed by the Wii at 33,394,311 units and the PlayStation 3 at 19,976,325 units.

Okay, they said first 19 months. That favours Nintendo slightly, but they won't present it in a way that favours X360 - come on!

- Third party sales for the Xbox 360 since the launch of the Wii and PS3 is 54,065,728 units, still almost double the Wii's 33,394,311 units.

This is also an OK way to present it, but it favours the X360 by heaps.

- If you take the total number of units sold and divide that by the number of titles released since November 2006, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are selling more units per title on average than the Wii. This puts the Xbox 360 at 217,252 units per title, the PS3 at 156,065 units and the Wii at 132,517 units.

Well, duh! The Wii gets more titles, so they sell less in average. More competition = lower sales pr game. This is just a stupid way to do something.

Ok so let me get this straight.   360 has sold 68million Wii 33 million this gen total.

Since the Wii was released the 360 sold 54 million.  So is that saying then that the 360 sold only 13 million its first year on the market.  And then it is comparing a system with 7 million consoles or whateve it had out with a brand new console.

Yea thats fair lets compare how these two systems compare in a time period when 1 has a 7 million head start on consoles.  Nintendos graph though could have been a longer period showed is the more accurate.  It is showing all 3 systems side by side respective to their launches.

Jim Sterling gets on my nerves. I just signed up to Destructoid just so I could post some sense under that daft post.

"I'm certainly more inclined to believe solid figures over a colorful little graph."

It's the same fucking NPD data, you moron!

I never got that statement, ever try to shoot a fish in a barrel? Not... very easy. I think they even did it on myth busters and the guy was like, "Man this is really hard..."

I think a million seller to a 30,000,000 and growing crowd is not very hard you only need to sell to 1 out of every 30 people but it's also not particularly easy either as a lot of games don't even get a tie in like that. Especially in a market like the Wiis where you have to wade through a lot of crap and you have a lot of uneducated consumers.

hes right if you only looks at american figures,WW its in wiis favor

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

It's just 2 companies presenting the same numbers that show off their consoles the best. Which one looks better? Well I'd say Ninty's looks better considering it gives a similar comparison timeframe wise and shows them doing a lot better. While MS doesn't give a similar timeframe and actually tries to show themselves selling more software in a time where PS3 and Wii had a huge disadvantage userbase wise.

Either way you cut it, still PR talk. But Nintendo isn't lying and neither is MS. Just spinning haha.

Actually, they found it was incredibly easy, because you don't need to actually hit the fish to kill them. The shockwave of a bullet hitting the water in such a confined area is enough to kill the fish.

In the meantime, comments on Destructoid reveal that people are still drinking the kool-aid and stating that they trust "Microsoft's" figures more. Is VGC the only gaming website where the sheep don't rule?

No, Nintendo isn't lying. Microsoft is just using their one year headstart and a lot of spin to make the 360 look better.

Actually, there was surprisingly little spin in that article.

No, just the only one ran by Wii fans.

Either way the numbers are true, its just corporations spinning, as every company does. The reason MS wants everyone to add in their year head start is because they released a console with out HD-DVD and with severe design flaws to get that extra year on the market. GIVE THEM THEIR DUE!!! :)

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"
