Forums - Gaming Discussion - Cliffy B on resistance 2: My game is better

I'm only surprised at the audacity of the the comment. I'm pretty sure Insomniac doesn't send copies of R2 over to Cliffy for evaluation, so he is, therefore, talking straight from his backside if he's comparing these two unreleased titles already.

In any case, obviously if he thought his competition was making a better game, he would talk it down, and his own game up, while heading back to his team and working on improving his game, so his commentary is totally meaningless.

His not mouthing off about how his game is "better", would go a lot further toward implying that his product will speak for itself when it ships.  So now I'm worried that he's scared of R2, even though it doesn't directly compete with his game because its on a different platform -- maybe that's why he thinks he can talk trash and get away with it.

Comments like that are pretty typical of Bleszinski. That's just the kind of guy he is, not that it detracts from his abilities as a game designer.

As long as he can keep delivering the goods to keep players happy, he can get away with it. Otherwise he could end up being the next John Romero, sans his own independent company/development studio.

Obviously he is going to say his game is better. He has a bias toward it being the creator. I wouldn't get too worried about it though. I would like to say though that I am more interested in Resistance 2, and I'm even buying a Keyboard and Mouse adapter for my PS3 just for the game. Its one of the few console only FPS that interest me. I didn't really like the first gears too much anyway. Oh and welcome back Leo-J.

Before you do that, allow me to save you some money.

ANY USB mouse and keyboard should work with the PS3.

I bought a cheap Dynex mouse and keyboard set for inputting text when I initially set up my console and it works fine for browsing and UT3, which is currently the only game I know of offhand that supports mouse and keyboard controls.

It works just as well as UT3 on PC.

No adapter needed. Just use your current PC mouse and keyboard.

Yeah but I don't like playing FPS with dual analog. There is an adapter that lets you play any FPS with keyboard + mouse. Ign gave it a low 90 rating so it should be good.

Cliffy B's a bit of a douchebag, but I think we all knew that. Luckily he makes good games so he gets some leeway, but he really should learn to act more professionally.

Does Resistance 2 have any sort of skill progression or level gaining for their online Multiplayer?

The first Resistance had level progression, and provided unlocks for character customizations.
I haven't heard anything regarding skill progression in R2, although they haven't covered the level system that extensively yet. I do know that R2 has a much more complete stat-tracking system that rewards players based more on teamwork and objectives within their squad.

To be honest, single-player in both games is pretty much up to preference. One is a more creative "run'n'gun", while the other is a more tactic-based "stop'n'pop". I do think Resistance's backstory and atmosphere were leagues above Gears', and it's online mode was more enjoyable.
We'll see how the sequels fare against eachother, but a comprison between the two is hard given their play-styles.

and while I am at it

does Gears 2?

Can't speak for Resistance, but Gears 2 purposely doesn't.  They want it to be more of a balance between tactics and brutal combat, not a game of "who's got the faster reload stat or who can heal faster".

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

You mean ANY FPS. That's actually pretty cool.

It would be asking too much for mouse and keyboard support for most games on a console after all.

That's just from experiencing enough success at a young age to adopt the "gaming rock star" attitude.

He'll either change in maturity along with age, or after his first taste of humble pie if a project he's tied to underperforms/flops.

That is a pretty ass comment on his part.

R:FoM Online had level progression? I only played it online for around 2 - 3 hours, I just beat the Campaign a few times.
