As long as it makes the site more convenient.

If you build historical weekly American data, they will come...
If you build historical weekly European/others data, they will come in droves...
If you build historical weekly Worldwide data, they will come in droves, and never leave...
If you build it, they will come.

its by far the best aspect of this site, the more you expand it the better it will be.
If you have access to accurate historical data, it would be ashame NOT to promote it and have them available.

I think they are sort of hard to promote. Most games couldn't care less about charts from 5-10 years ago.
Maybe if you can extend the graphing options (i.e. select start time, graphing period, etc..) and then link this back to the relevant weekly data (click on a spot on a graph, and it takes you to the relevant weekly page?)?
That would be pretty cool, and you could then come up with some cool comparisons which should be easy(ier) to publicise?

IMO, it's difficult to promote every single week of various J and A data once A data becomes weekly.
Maybe highlight the major release dates in history - RE4, SM64, FFVII, VIII, IX, KH, and various other real big weeks in gaming history with sales data.
Outside of that, I wouldn't try to highlight too too much, aslong as it's always available and accessible, we'll always look.
Get that American weekly data up, stat!
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
I think the idea in the original post had the right idea. Do a "This Week In History" post every week which looks back at maybe the top ten software numbers and hardware numbers for that week. Could make a post a day, one for each area and end the week with the worldwide numbers.
I think this is the best, most easily implemented feature.
As for charts, it would be nice to somehow have a way to cut the charts off at a certain point. I hate aligning N64/Gamecube/Wii numbers and then having to suffer through the current Wii data being crunched in since the N64 has had such a much longer lifetime. Perhaps make it so you could cut off the number of weeks of data shown.
I guess that's not relevant here though.
Since it seems that people interested in the historical data are finding it already, my guess is the feature doesn't need direct promotion. The presence of the "blast from the past" is enough to alert the curious that the data is available, and I've never thought twice about "hunting" for it. The site design is quite efficient IMO.
i agree with ddobson, its easy enough to navigate through as it is.
speaking of old data though, where are all the old charts for the US? when i first started visiting this site it went all the way back to 1994. will this be put back up?
