it will move consoles, not whe lot though
Not as much as Gears 1.
We have to understand that Gears is an established franchise, it will push some consoles, but not much.
we will never know. as holiday sales starts peeking on november through december. hence, there is no way in hell in determining if the sales boost is due to gears2, the holiday season or to whatever game coming out near christmas.

However, I don't think the hardware bump will be spread out through the entire holiday season like Halo 3 or the previous Gears of War.

Halo 2 launched:
1) On a console that cost $150
2) During the holidays
Those two factors were far more responsible for the increase in hardware sales, and even then, it only lasted a few weeks.
Halo 3 also launched right before the holidays and right after a price cut.
Gears Of War appears to have moved large amounts of hardware, but it, too, was released during the holidays.
There are indeed games that move hardware, but not in the way that so many people on internet forums and gaming websites would suggest. There simply aren't that many people who are willing to buy a console just for one game, especially when the console is above mass market price point.
Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

I agree with most of the above. a liitle spike, then back to normal. the game will sell well though, but definitely to most of the people who bought the original.
This holiday season will be very different, as now the PS3 has games too. Gonna be interesting to watch.
Playing and finishing games first>>>>>>>>>>Then talking!
Opinions are subjective and just like moods, can change.
TOP 12: Deus Ex, Shadow Man, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturn, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Metroid Prime, Zelda (series), Uncharted (series), FF Tactics, Persona (series), Demons Souls, Vagrant Story.
MOST WANTED: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Last Guardian, ICO/Shadow OTC HD
Absolutely. Even though Gears 2 will be for the hardcore and those who have played the original, I can see some people buying a 360 for this game.
Absolutely. People said everybody who wanted Halo 3 would have already got one. That just isnt the case. I'm DEFINITELY getting one around that time. Too many bills at the moment. Cant wait for coop campaign!!!
Ynwa.

I agree with most of this. However, I don;t think either game will push many consoles. I'm expecting a max boost of 75k for Geow2, though it will seem like a lot more because the game is releasing at the beginning of the holiday season
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

1. If price was a factor, the 360 wouldn't be selling faster than the Xbox at double or more the price.
2. Same thing with Gears of War 2. In fact, I think Halo 2 launched in October instead of Gears of War 2 which will launch in November (if memory serves).
And who says that people will buy the 360 just for Gears of War 2? Hell, maybe the person has wanted the 360 for months but just needed the proper motivation. If people bought the 360 for just one or two games, than it would have a poor attach rate like the Xbox did, but that's clearly not the case.
Your argument seems to be that GoW and Halo 2 only moved consoles because they launched before the holiday season, but the same could be said for Gears of War (what, do you think it's going to be released last thursday?).
