Generally speaking yes, but there are a few differences between the two.Gears of War has sold over 5.2 million copies worldwide. That's 5.2 million people who will not be purchasing a 360 if they buy Gears of War 2. Resistance: Fall of Man on the other hand has only sold 2.9 million copies worldwide. That gives Resistance 2 a larger market to convince to purchase a PS3 for than Gears 2. Furthermore, while Gears of War was a huge blockbuster that pretty much every Shooter fan purchased, Resistance was a lesser hit that didn't exactly tap into the playerbase due to it's relative mediocrite. Resistance 2 however, looks to be a significant improvement over its prequel that will likely stand toe-to-toe with Gears of War 2 within the shooter fanbase. Gears 2 in comparison is pretty much the original Gears of War with more weapons and a few extra multiplayer modes which gives off a distinctive "been there done that" feeling. As far as system-selling potential is concerned, Resistance 2 definitely has an edge over Gears of War 2. |
I agree with most of this. However, I don;t think either game will push many consoles. I'm expecting a max boost of 75k for Geow2, though it will seem like a lot more because the game is releasing at the beginning of the holiday season
