Forums - Sony - Does Sony not care about third parties? (FF XIII related)

They care about third parties, but they don't seem to care about third party exclusives. First party will differentiate the platforms. Sony has a better first party network and original IPs. Also, as the PS3 install base continues to grow the timed exclusive deals for MS will keep getting more expensive.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

They've made it clear for a while that with PS3 the focus was on 1st 2nd party exclusives - not that they don't care, but that securing 3rd party exclusives isn't their top priority.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

My point is that Sony can't live off first party and some second party games forever. MS is buying exclusives and multiplats. If the game does really well on the 360 then third parties might not put that certain game on the PS3. Userbase is crucial and without the proper third party support it could hurt them. MS can always buy exclusivity or companies can just make games Wii exclusive (MS hasn't gone after Wii exclusives. They seem to only want to hurt Sony.). I mean...yeah, the PS3 won't sell 100 mil+ but couple that with the fact that they don't make much money on the PS3 and third parties are leaving Sony (making 360 games exclusive or multiplat) and Wii games as exclusive.

I prefer that sony spend their money on new first party titles then just buying others exclusives.  And X360 is losing a lot of exclusives aswell without Sony spending money for it like Bioshock, Lost planet, Fatal inertia (that drive space game) etc..

Buying 3P exclusives for Sony, at this point, is throwing good money after bad. I applaud them for sticking to 1st party development; it's almost certainly a better ROI for them.

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.

That's a flawed logic.

Third parties will continue to put games on both platforms.  PS3 userbase is rising each week, and in short order will be ahead of the 360 (2009 ish).  SO what are you talking about?  Do you not see the sales each week?  Has PS3 not made up 1.6 million units of ground this year on the 360?  Are you blind to that?  And as we saw with FFXIII, userbase is critical, which is why it's not releasing on the 360 in Japan.  Third-Parties can see that.

I still don't understand what you're talking about.

They can't say other thing, because they changed from the Top to the Bottom, they set up this situation, now they can't put money on every thrid party project and thats why they will answer on that way...

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

It appears to me that they just don't really care. It looks like they'd rather fund internal development and hope third parties support them.

And to be honest that is how it should be. Gamers do not benefit if Companies buy exclusives for their system. If it makes economic sense for most games to be on both platforms why should console makers try to change that by throwing money out of the window?

Perhaps not reasonable, but regardless, the more consoles sold relative to the 360, the easier/cheaper it will be to secure 3rd party exclusives. The PS3 is progressing well imo, and assuming that current trends continue, that we will see more 3rd party games for the PS3.

Look at it this way, right now, the 360 sells 1.35 games for every PS3 game sold. What will happen when this ratio goes down to 1 :1 ? A lot of people are predicting the 4th quarter of this year or perhaps 2nd quarter of 2009.

Either way, once the PS3 starts selling as much software as the 360 it will have a lot more muscle to negotiate with, so its all good as I see it.

Why? Nintendo seemed to do it pretty well in the Gamecube era. They didn't win... but they made more money then Sony did with during that same era with the winning console.

Sony's higher ups are just maturing and realizing that more proft > Winning.  Likely partly based off that shocking fact.

Had Sega got that message they'd still be around today... and the Dreamcast might of been the winner last gen.

I'd guess Sony doesn't even loss lead with their next system.  Loss Leading almost never pays off.  Your increased market share often gets you less profit.

I think for 1 that Microsoft probably has mor exclusive games in the works then Sony does. They may not be 1st party games but they are games none the less. Take a look at the exclusives this year and last year and ask who has more.

Secondly, money talks. If MS can buy games I dont care. If MS buys an exclusive game again I dont care. They can run there business any way that they want.
