Forums - Sales Discussion - The Official June NPD Thread (for the 5 weeks ending 7/5, data in ~6 hours)

Whilst the percentage of imports in Latin America may be significant, the 95% figure is pulled out of thin air, putting it politely.

As for shipments, FishyJoe is correct with concern to Nintendo shipments, and 360 shipments were actually at 20.3m through last quarter.

In regards to Mexico:

In 2004, Sony brought the PlayStation 2 to Mexico, officially. According to Jeffrey Wright at America's News Intelligence, they opened a distribution facility to put the console in retail stores at an affordable price and Sony has sold over 860,000 units in Mexico as of Q4 2007.

Thanks for the update.

Nice top 20, thanks. Looks like Rock Band did better than Guitar Hero on Wii. It had an extra week of sales though (Jun. 22 vs Jun. 29th). I'm sure Harmonix are easily pleased with that number, since all they did was port the PS2 version over *gag*

I guess GTA IV should be around 250k on 360, with PS3 slightly over half at around 130k.That would put it at nearly 3m for 360, and a little over 1.5m for PS3. 4.5m total for US, 5m with Canada included.

The simExchange will be getting actual figures from NPD anyway.

So the Wii version of 'Guitar Hero: Aerosmith' was the best selling one, according to NPD, for the USA. Pretty good sales for Rock Band too.

If you add 'Lego Indiana Jones', it seems like the Wii has finally imposed itself as the dominant platform, software-sales wise.
Now, what (and when) are the next set of noticeable multiplatform games to be released in the USA ? Should be interesting to see if this is a trend, or just specific to those titles.

Madden is next in August. Should be interesting.

Wii has the top version of Lego Indy AND GH: Aerosmith, along with what looks like a big debut for Rock Band. The "third party software doesn't sell on Wii" argument has to be pretty much dead, eh?

Also: 8 of the top 20 games come with a peripheral.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

NCAA and Madden will settle the "dominant platform" debate between the Wii and the 360.
