Let's see how the new Mario and Zelda games would end up then...

Having they said this before? Nothing new here. Nintendo games still have challenges regardless. Isn't SMG "for everyone"? Now, tell a casual to do the Trial Galaxy. Not so easy,..is it? And Zelda has some pretty confusing puzzles and long dungeons. Really, if Zelda: TP and SMG played fine...future titles won't change much either when it comes to "accessability".

SMG is not for everyone. If you've ever seen a non-gamer attempt to play the game you'd know what I mean. Non-gamers can handle games like Wii-Fit and Wii Sports because things you do in real life happen on screen. Is this what Miyamoto is trying to do with Zelda?

Super Mario Galaxy is indeed crafted so that anyone can play it.  Look how blissfully easy the first third of the game is.  It's pure fun, but also unchallenging in a lot of respects.  But, as with most Mario games, it starts out simple to play, simple to understand, and addictively fun--but gradually ramps up the difficulty so the hardcore have some enjoyment.

The next games will be just as good.

NSMB and Zelda:PH were their first attempts at making both franchises user friendly for newer gamers. I don't think this will be a problem. Zelda will def need additional difficulty settings though, because I'm sick of these games being cakewalks.

They're talking about Controling the character and Combat.

Cool down, they will not destroy their greatest franchise. They're not idiots.

Nintendo going Casual??

And still they make the yes THE best games of any company.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Honestly, this worries me.

I love Nintendo games, and I called everyone doubting Nintendo this gen an idiot, and rightfully so, because there were no reasons to doubt Nintendo. We got all kinds of awesome games, and there are lots more to come.

However, what Nintendo said here is something no Nintendo fan wants to hear. Please improve the core franchises, don't weaken them. Again, this really worries me.

Zelda TP and Mario Galaxy were one of the easiest games in their respective franchises. They are no longer truly hardcore franchises because they are just too easy.

Nintendo is going to be resposible for the second video game crash of the industy.

1UP: With your new focus on user-friendly controls and playability, will this approach play into, for example, future iterations of Mario and Zelda? Will this affect game design in any way?

SM: Frankly, some of the so-called "franchise games" are quite difficult for nongamers to play, so making accessible games for these players is key. With Zelda, we have to consider how to make it accessible for new gamers to pick up and play and enjoy just as hardcore gamers have.

I don't really know what to make of this comment. It seems Nintendo want to stop making games that are specifically aimed at hardcore gamers entirely. I still believe that Miyamoto can do wrong with regards to Mario and Zelda, but if he ends up changing the experience and over-simplifying a perfect formula..

I'm worried.

I think changing the series up a bit next itteration could be a good thing. Simplification could lead to a more immediate gratification in gameplay. Lets just hope that it doesn't dissapoint when it's finally released.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

i'll cry if that happens.
