Forums - Sony - Sony: 'Disappointed in Square Enix'

Sometimes I think Square-Enix bases the stories of betrayal in their RPGs on their business dealings haha.

Lesson here: Develop internal talent to produce high quality exclusives that sell gangbusters.

Sony has more internal talent than Microsoft does, but the drop from PS2 to PS3 is going to be ~130m to ~50m-75m. Thats really sharp.

Now look at Microsoft - imagine if they sold a similar number of consoles with 3rd party exclusives but then lost them all. With even less reliable franchises than Sony I think their fall would be even more precipitous.

i thought they would have known about this for a long time, and therefore, they would be able to counter it at e3.

i agree with Tretton, they should focus on their first party stuff like nintendo, they are getting almost every 3rd party game thats on xbox360 anyways

How could they be surprised about the announcement? Take2 GTAIV sell better on the 360 then PS3. The only thing I'm suprise about was MGS4 didn't jump ship yet.

So basically Sony thinks M$ paid for it, which is not very surprising

Since Sony does own small part of SE, and is on the board of directors (I assume based on their 5% ownership), I can say that if anybody knows how Microsoft got the exclusive, it's Sony.

Don't they own 8%?

Either way, SE are the Judas of Gaming.

Long lasting relationship with Nintendo. Then goes on to stab them in the back.

Long lasting relationship with Sony, not to mention Sony keeping them afloat financially after the Spirits Within disaster. Then goes on to stab them in the back.

Now goes with Microsoft and while they took one arm and hugged MS, they reached out the other and stabbed them in the back as well with no release in Japan.

I don't consider it that big a backstabbing.. When microsoft writes you a check of millions of dollars, it's hard to turn it down.

What I do consider backstabbing is the fact they STILL insisted on "exclusive" right until E3. If you are going to switch, TELL US BEFORE.

I wonder how much they paid...

Versus XIII would be any even bigger backstab, specially after the SE president reconfirming it will remain exclusive, right after the XIII announcement.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

And where's the proof this was paid for?

And even if it was, why didn't the supposed deal include FF XIII in the region the 360 needed it most?

That's pretty much a proof Microsoft paid for it when Sony say it themselves.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

That's crazy, looks like sony didn't know about this. Wonder what's going to be more profitable, sony's internal development of first party titles, or microsofts exclusive breaking propaganda. Also i wonder if kojima has been teased with a check from the m$ camp

Of course they are surprised they lost their biggest exclusive game but on the other hand maybe sony should have secure ff13 instead.

GT5.

FF13 is (was?) a lot more hyped than GT5. Maybe not bigger saleswise, but I doubt a GT5 multiplatform announcement would have the impact FF13 multiplatform does for fans.

In the end - M$'s steal is more like a slap in the face than a serious financial blow, and GT5 is an eternal exclusive... in the end what matters to the companies are the sales, and GT5 will provide more than all the FF sales combined.

Maybe, but you don't get it, right now is more about the image and perception of the console... loosing a couple of big exclusives hurts the image of the console... yeah the PS3 have another exclusives but the damage is done... (Ask Nintendo about the N64 days)...

By me:

"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

If FF remains PS3 exclusive in Japan, the loss of exclusivity in the West will not hurt Sony. I didn't think it was possible, but Square really screwed both Sony and MS with this. I don't think it is fair to assume MS moneyhatted this one.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

speaking of FF Spirits Within, does anyone else find it hilarious that it is on the videostore
