You voted for Nintendo to abandon hardcore gamers so they could make some more money. Hilarious really.

Considering how I don't care for the snobcore at all, I'd gladly vote to abandon them even if it meant Pauly Shores would make a comeback. I neither know nor care why you drape yourself in that mantle, but in the future kindly do not imply I would ever stoop to care for the snobcore, let alone desire to associate with them. Thank you in advance.

What on earth are you talking about? Is 'snobcore' the new buzzword for Nintendo fans? I'll never understand how people will so blindly defend a companies decisions with no thought of their own personal enjoyment. If you do honestly prefer what Nintendo showed today to a conference with hardcore titles and without resorting to the 'Oh, I'm so happy, they make loads of money that I will never see' meme, then I have nothing more to say to you.

but like i said micrsoft made some profit in their last quaters

Only on paper. Remember, they specifically shifted the entire $1 billion plus RRoD costs into a single quarter (depsite the fact that they'll be paying it as they go) simply to improve the outlook in future quarters. My guess is that despite releasing mega-games like Halo 3 in that time period, their actual profits are slim to none. Even worse, Micrsoft Corporation as a whole is hemorraghing money right now (where once it had $60 billion in reserves two years ago, it's under $28 billion today). In that environment, I'm thinking stockholders are going to take a very close look at an ancillary branch which has gobbled up billions over just a few years.

@Shameless: I intend to hold you to that "nothing more to say" part.

The general consensus is that the 360 and PS3 are systems for hardcore gamers.

Microsoft's H&E division: approximately $2.5 billion in losses since launch of the 360.
Sony's gaming division: approximately $3 billion in losses since launch of the PS3.

Does it make sense to cater to hardcore gamers?

I don't care if they lose money, it's not mine. I want hardcore games.

I understand that. But how long do you think will companies continue to make hardcore games first and foremost if that is what they get?

When Sony put the PS3 on the market there were 2 things they wanted to reach.

1) Becoming the marketleader.
2) Make Blu ray succesfull and defeat HD DVD.

1) Looks impossible now.
2) If Blu Ray becomes the next DVD they are gong to laugh with the 3 Billion they lost now.

And you think they still can attract many casuals to X360 and PS3 with the Ultimate Casual Wii system?

Nintendo did say they are trying t destroy the "casual/hardcore" barrier. Maybe they are just destroying the hardcore part first.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Bu-bu-but it pleases the (shrinking) fanbase! Companies exist solely to make me personally happy, and when one shuts down another will simply take its place!

"Snobcore"... cute, an overgeneralization, but cute. To call them snobs and then become repulsed with the very idea of being assoiciated with them is a bit snobbish in itself, is it not?

I'm not entirely convinced that the 'hardcore' fanbase is shrinking, either. It may make up less of a percentage of gamers as the casual market is greatly expanding but that would only cause it to relatively shrink.

will provide some form of "new gaming experience",

Oh, and you forgot SW:Clone wars + CoD. =)
But overall, will the hardcore gamer satisfied with these 2? I doubt. =)

I feel sorry for Nintendo fans.. =)
Oh, mad world should be ardcore one.) And there Tales of Symphonia+FF4. But yeah, overall not much hardcore games.

BUT, Nintendo don`t have other option, it can`t stand against Sony/M$ - GC proved that, so it doing money from casuals. =)

Wow that killzone footage looks HOT!

Anyway don't feel bad for Nintendo fans. I'm a Nintendo fan and I will always remember the SNES days with fondness.

this could have great or bad effects though. Sure doing it this gen will make them tons of money, but by going all casual they will lose alot of gamers. I know alot of people who dislike the wii because of its casualness and have been hardcore nintendo since the begining.

If nintendo loses alot of its fans, and do not catch the casual next gen....where do they go?

I see your point, and agree, though I hope it doesn't happen.

We all rember that Pokemon was a huge fad that lasted about 10 years. Pokemon still survives today thanks to its huge appeal, but the card game/TV show isn't nearly as big as it used to be. Meanwhile the games sell fine thanks to it's many fans. Now, once the Wii is over and done with in another 6 years, the Wii's popularity will effectivly be over, fad or not. Wii will not surive the way Pokemon has, and it is yet to be seen whther Nintendo will get casuals to buy another system or if they will get bored with the "new, in" thing and find something else. IF they do lose their casual fans, at the rate they are going their hardcore base might only be 1/2 the size. GC has about 21M sales- At least 10M were Hardcore Nintendo fans, and I bet up to 15M were. The rest were hardcore gamers and children for the most part. If Nintendo's fanbase splinters, their next console might only sell 10-15M units, which is Sega Saturn territory. If Nintendo gets on that slippery of footing, they might not survive.

If they stripped out all those trojan horse media features and just made hardcore games on a box that was deisgned to be sold at a reasonable break even price, and didn't both heavily target FPS fans, PS3 and 360 would both be very profitable. So going after the hardcore does make sense, they just both went at it the wrong way becuse they both have alterior motives. Nintendo is the opposite. They want to make money; lots of it, anyway possible, even if it doesn't involve/barely involes core gamers.

Xbox 360 is tracking to beat the original Xbox. The hardcore is growing. PS2 had alot of casual gamers that Wii is syphoning. The industry is grwoing, both casual and hardcore.

Yeah, Nintendo's showing was pretty lackluster. But from a mass-market point-of-view, it was very exciting. Wii Sports 2 is HUGE, and I'm really excited about Animal Crossing and the fact that we finally get voice chat. Many of you find it odd that Ninty didn't show games such as The Conduit, MadWorld, Fatal Frame IV, Deadly Creatures, Tenchu IV, Arc Rise Fantasia, Tales of Symphonia:DotNW, etc., but their focus was on the lower-tier, mass market titles during the presentation and it's that market that will keep Wii sales at or above 600k each month in the NPDs. They know exactly what they're doing. Those aformentioned core games are still on the way whether they showed them or not during the presentation. Now you guys are acting like they don't exist anymore...
