CliffyB loves MGS4: Best cut scenes in the industry

"I'm a huge fan of Kojima," he tells CVG

Epic's Cliff Bleszinski has praised the work of Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, saying that his Tokyo-based team are "the best at what they do".

"I'm a huge fan of Kojima," he said, when CVG asked what he thought of the controversy over Metal Gear Solid 4's near-90 minute cut scenes.

"The kind of scenes they do in MGS4 are phenomenal. I think it has the best sound and real-time [cut scenes] I've seen in the industry and since they're the best at what they do, players love it," he added.

"It's the hallmark of the series - the camera angles and dramatic scenes and it's really taking film-making to this new digital level," he said, while admitting that his personal preference 'as a gamer' is shorter cut scenes.

"In the kind of games we do, the cut scenes are around three to four minutes on average. It just says what needs to be said and moves on to letting you actually play the game."

i posted this because many was flareing about a few weeks ago making gears cut scenes comparisons with the best game this gen so far MGS4. do some people still feel gears has better real-time cut scenes, or agree with cliffyB that MGS4 real-time cut scenes are the best in the industry?

Wait a minute -- Kojima productions said that the reports of a 60 and nearly 90 minute cutscene were a "gross exaggeration." They weren't lying, were they?

Anyhow, didn't CliffyB call MGS4 "passive entertainment" a few weeks ago. Did he publically judge it without playing it?

Yep, here it is: http://www.ripten.com/2008/06/25/cliffyb-calls-metal-gear-passive-entertainment/

Metal Gear Solid is our example of the game we’re not doing. Passive entertainment is on its way out.

perhaps Epic advised him to bite his tongue.

Personally I've always felt that when you are in the public eye you should do your best to follow Thumper's Mother's advice.

lol...something tells me he just said that to get people off his back when he called MGS4 "passive entertainment."

Well, saying that MGS 4 has the best cut scenes in the industry isn't exactly a great compliment because cut scenes are an after thought for games, in general, and no one in the industry (save for Blizzard, maybe) puts a hell of a lot of resouces into them.

Sorry but that statement was a slag on Kojima as well. "Taking film-making to the next level", "letting you actually play the game".

Why does this c*cks*ck*r feel like he has to slag off one of the greatest in the industry. Has Kojima done anything to him?

Calling it 'passive entertainment' was not an insult. Otherwise, all movies ever made would be insulting. He was only saying that it's not the type of game that THEY are doing. Also, he's apparently played and enjoyed four out of the six main MGS games. Gears is simply not the same type of game.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

uhhh no. Blizzard's cutscenes totally crap on Kojima's face.

They may be long, but they are still very good, especially the one at the end of act 3
