Forums - Gaming - is square enix remaking to much?

I have to say that they are, although I'll give them credit: some of their new games are starting to look genuinely interesting, so if I have to put up with ports to get MLaaK or TWEWY, I'm okay with it.

On the one hand, I like it because re-releasing the older IP's is an almost guaranteed way to raise money for new IP's, or new sequels to old IP's, in Square/Enix's case.
On the other hand, I'd rather them spend their time developing new IP's altogether(like they've done on the DS and VC, and soon, the PS3/Xbox 360.) More of that.

It is cool to expose newer gamers to the classics, though. My cousins(ages 7-12) are too young to remember Chrono Trigger, a game which I plan to buy them this year.

Regardless of whether or not they need all these remakes to help keep the company afloat, I sure miss the days when Square was just Square and they seemed to be more 'daring' during the SNES and PS1 days, making Einhander, Parasite Eve and others.

So, IMHO, Square from the 90´s >>>>>>>>>>>>> Square nowadays.

I am not going to buy every remake S-E make but I am looking forward to the CT remake(or port as many would call it) as well as the SO1 and SO2 remakes. If they are ever made, I would definitely buy a FFVI 3D remake(it's inevitable) and VII remake.

EDIT:I agree, S-E are not as good as Squaresoft were, though they aren't a bad company and they seem to be steadily inproving.

I think it's good what their doing so the people who missed them, like me gets a chance to play them again

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

doesn't matter as long as it's a good game, plus it gives the younger generation of gamers a chance to experience what other gamers are reffering to.

I see it as a win win, but maybe they shouldn't charge so much for them. 35 or 29 would of been very fair.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

I don't see it as any different than George Lucas' endless Star Wars rereleases.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I have no problem with remakes.

Just release them State-Side!

DAMMIT I WANT THE FINAL MIXES!!!

Even if they are, you're not obligated to purchase their software, so why does it really matter? There are a lot of people, kids like Soriku, that were NOT EVEN BORN when some of their releases came out. It's a chance for younger gamers and even older gamers such as myself to get a shot at some of the mega RPGs of the oldschool era.
