Forums - Sony - Sony doesn't think rumble is last-gen anymore

This sounds like a good day for sony, btw with the rumble news, and the news about blockbuster going BD exclusively

yea.. but we all know the Wii is overpriced.. Nintendo could easily have sold it at $200 and made a profit.

When something sells much faster than they can provide supply for 8 months after its launch, it isn't overpriced -- it's underpriced.  Nintendo has even said they should've launched at $300.

Gballzack, calm down.  I'm on your side here, but you really go too far.  I don't think anyone called you a fanboy in this thread, and I think we do all know that Sony v. Immersion was in regard to patented rumble technology.

Does everyone really think that a recall would be completely stupid?  Blue3 was the only one to respond to that comment, and I'd like to hear from someone a bit... more articulate.  Think about it this way: Nintendo provided free new wrist straps because some crazy people broke a few TVs, even though many fans didn't think it was a problem.  A lot of Sony fans feel the lack of rumble isn't a problem, but many potential customers feel that it is.

It was suggested that Sony recall the current Sixaxis controllers and replace them with rumbling ones? To put it in a better way, I think that would be as weird as Microsoft recalling all the 20gig hard drives and replacing them with the better 120gig hard drives.

Wouldn't a recall be harmful to their already sensitive losses? Perhaps a slower intigration (one they wouldn't make too big a deal about as not to upset consumer faith in their product) and simply release a patch for already existing games. It should be a slow and discreet process that only hypes the matter to Sony hardcores who will be excited by the news, but not the general public who may already be put off by the PS3 and don't need any further deturment.

Replacement Sixaxis controllers must cost at least a couple more bucks than a Wii wriststrap ;)

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I was going to say that. It seemed very obvious.

Don't know if it's worth it starting a new thread, so here we go:

Immersion owes Microsoft upwards of $15 million for the Sony settlement

“Microsoft is suing Immersion for breach of contract only months after Immersion prevailed in a $90 million suit against Sony. The two are connected: Microsoft wants its share of the spoils.

(...)

"We entered into a binding licensing agreement with Immersion and are seeking to have that agreement honored," said Microsoft Associate General Counsel Steve Aeschbacher in a statement. "Our request to the court is that all companies and industry partners should play by the same rules and that the binding agreement we signed with Immersion be honored."

Just what hasn't been honored? The complaint details the Sublicense Agreement (SLA) that Microsoft and Immersion entered into in 2003, following the settlement between the two parties. According to the complaint, the SLA entitles Microsoft to a minimum $15 million payment as a result of Immersion's settlement with Sony. Microsoft and Immersion apparently agreed to share the bounty that would stem from a court battle with Sony, and Microsoft says they have yet to be paid. In fact, Microsoft had a stepped arrangement which provided that additional compensation should be paid to the company if the total settlement amount surpassed $100 million, which Microsoft believes it has.”

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Would never happen.  Studios aren't going to go back and take the time and money to put rumble in their game unless they are going to release some kind of greatest hits release and even then I wouldn't count on it.

There really isn't a good way of integrating rumble into the PS3.  The best way would be to give people a good two weeks warning with an announcement like "Hi, we're adding ruuuuumble!" and just do it.  Of course let the devs know in advance but have them simply keep it under wraps.  If you let people know that the SIXAXIS is getting rumble too soon sells will slow down for SIXAXIS controllers and the system for too long.

If MGS4 stays exclusive, I'm really glda it's been delayed, and likely to have rumble built in.

No rumble was really a big problem with PS3 for me. Playing console games without it feels really distancing nowadays.

How can rumble be last generation? You bring it to the second generation. It doesn't need to stay behind. It enhanced the games, didn't it? So bring it to the next generation. Don't leave it behind, and call it last generation, as a last minute excuse, because of their law suite with Immersion. You don't throw away one good thing for another. No. You take both. It's logic. It's like replacing color on T.V. for sound. Why not have both?
