Forums - Nintendo - To Those That don't like Metroid Prime 2

Prime 2 was a game that wasn't afraid to hand you your ass on a platter. IT WAS TOUGH AS STEEL.

People complain about backtracking, sure it was a bitch, but wandering around with the Light Suit and Annihilator Beam is an experience that I haven't had since, except for the part in Corruption with all the GF Trooper guys near the end of the game.

But Echoes was a phenomenal game and those that disagree should actually play it or re-play it. It was such a great game and something to tide you over until Resident Evil 4 came out.

I put a fair number of hours into Prime 2 and I enjoyed them a lot. I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't finish it, because MP3 came out and I couldn't wait to play Metroid with Wii controls.

For what I did play, my only complaint was the ammo system for light/dark beams. It's just a hassle I'd rather not have to worry about.

Too repetitive. You always knew where to go, and the amount of clever puzzles was less. MP3 was a disaster zone though, so...

Visit three areas.
In each area, there are identical light and dark worlds, forcing you to play twice.
In each area, one finds three keys and then fights one big boss in the temple area. The temple area is always the same. After this, you return to the hub area to find the next area.
After you've done all three areas, you must search for nine keys: two in each area and three in the main area. You are told where to go for these too.
After this, you must enter the dark version of the hub area and go to the dark version of the main temple, and then fight the final boss in the predictable location of the central temple.
End.

The eight key areas are:

- Desert (brown)
- Dark desert (purple)
- Swamp (brown)
- Dark swamp (purple)
- Fortress (grey)
- Dark fortress (purple)
- Hub desert (brown)
- Dark hub desert (purple)

Brown, grey, purple. Over and over.

Metroid Prime 1, on the other hand, you didn't know where to go next and each area was very different.

I didn't HATE it, but I thought the first one was WAY better.

The design of the world was boring, especially the dark world. And I hated that you couldn't go outside those light beacons without getting hurt and so. I thought it was an OK game, but I had higher expectations for it and therefore I was a bit disappointed.

I actually liked Echoes a lot. Maybe because I played it in a few large sittings, but the repetition didn't bug me too much. I also liked MP3 quite a bit, I don't consider it a disaster at all. I did like the idea of ammo in MP3, as the FPS played in me was always a bit disgruntled by the limitless ammo of MP in general.

I

Imho :

MP1 created a new and unique genre, the FPA. The game was very immersive and you had this organic feeling when wandering on Tallon IV, reinforced by the ability to scan every litle flower. I remember scanning every inch of wall with the Xray visor to find these samn missile expansion pack !

MP2 got beyond that and walked on the path of the dark and light world we had in Zelda : A link to the past. I think it was a rehearsal of the first opus, somehow i found it a bit harder and the atmospher was less organic but more oppressive, with the ing popping everywhere.

MP3 had a better story and background than the two others imho. I found it less hard than the others, mainly because of the controls that were perfect and unmatched as now.

I can't tell which one I prefered though.

I bought MP2 about 3 years ago now and still haven't played more than 10 minutes. Unfortunately, because I want to get through 2 before starting 3, my copy of MP3 has only been inside my Wii once to check that the disc worked (I bought it the week it was released). I really should finish the games I haven't before buying new ones....

I liked Metroid Prime 2 a lot, I just liked Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 3 more.
