Forums - Sales - Guitar Hero: On Tour sells 300k 1st Week

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/guitar-hero-on-tour-hits-300k-in-the-us

Activision has announced that its DS music game Guitar Hero: On Tour has sold more than 300,000 units in North America during its first week on sale.

The company claims this makes it the publisher's largest North American launch for a DS title by a factor of eight, and one of Activision's top 5 best-selling launches ever.

Guitar Hero pwns wallets.

Activision reports over 300k (shipped?), VGC reports about 200k (sold to customers).

Good?

Undertracked, for sure. These sales are fantastic and should make into the top ten for this month.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

Actually, I'd guess this is based on Activision's own internal sales tracking, not just their shipments.

Here's the actual press release, since GI.biz guy can't figure out US vs. NA. It's NA, and its the "first seven days since its launch."

So depending what day the game launched and what days VGC covered, maybe its not bad for VGC.

i think vgchartz has it good, cause that might be the first 7 days of sales

I'm surprised that it didn't boost DS sales to any noticeable degree.

Fishy -

I would assume that DS saturation in the US is about as high as it's going to be for a game like GH:OT, therefore a high-selling game such as this won't really effect sales of the DS.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Indeed, especially with the new On Tour DS bundle. Still, I'm thinking that this game is going to have massive legs. On Tour is an extremely fun game and it deserves every sale it gets.

Based on the launch, I'd put the over/under for lifetime worldwide sales at about 2.75M.

hmm, why?

MGS4 shipped 3 million and now is around just over 2 million sold to customer. VGC's number on GH looks very credible here.

I suppose the numbers on Guitar Heros have skewed my perspective, but I'm a bit surprised that it's that low. Still, Activision seems quite pleased with the results, and the franchise generally sells well over time, so...yeah?
