I care about stories only when they're done well. Cutscenes are usually not the most effective model to bring story across, which is why I prefer them to be used as sparingly as possible.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

It depends entirely on the game. In a game like MGS4 they are certainly expected and by most gamers appreciated. In a game like Tetris I would be pretty annoyed I think =P

I care about a good and well told story, not sucky ones that are told in boring ways *cough*Army of Two*cough*

Well it makes me feel like I have a reason to play the game. Like in Final Fantasy, I wouldn't go through all those fights for no reason it would be kind of boring. The cutscenes are like rewards. Plus they help to "get into" the game.

With that said, it's not true with every game. I think it's more for RPGs.

Yes . Actually in many cases the story is the most important part for me . Why else do you think that I played trough Clocktower 2 ? :P

Same for cut-scenes . If the cut-scenes are bad , than IMO the games quality drops a lot ...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

In RTS like WC3-SC is like a reward, FPS can be bad, adventure is really needed, RPGs are needed, but anything above 15 min (But the end) is overkill...

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

Well, it depends, If it is an RPG, yes. If it was a shooter, it is not necessary.

So you're saying that in a way, the cutscenes are foreplay for the actualy gameplay? Or maybe the other way around ...

Its kind of interesting to think about it that way but it certainly fits for a lot of games, particularly the FF example you brought up.

I remeber when cutshenes fist came out.... that was the reward for beating a game... i still consider that as an important part of the game
