Chubgear, I still think the majority of the gaming community agrees that the PS3 will not do nearly as well as the PS2 did. It's still to early to tell. The PS2 was the champion by a huge margin. My prediction is the PS3 will not be that champion.

Sony estimated another 11 million shipped for March 08' (not happening if you ask me).

Sony should be in the 6.0 to 9.0 million range by the end of 2007...

Probably in the 6.5 to 10.5 million range by the end of March 2008.

If Sony met projections they will have shipped 16 million by March 2008 though...

December - 1.5 million sold worldwide (800k Americas, 400k Europe, 300k Japan)

November - .9 million sold worldwide (450k Americas, 250k Europe, 200k Japan)

October - .7 million sold worldwide - GTA - (425k Americas, 225k Europe, 50k Japan) 

September - 300,000 sold worldwide (140k Americas, 120k Europe. 40k Japan)

August - 300,000 sold worldwide (160k Americas, 100k Europe, 40k Japan)

July - 250,000 sold worldwide (110k Americas, 90k Europe, 50k Japan)

Next three weeks in June: 135,000 worldwide..200kish for June (70k Americas, 80k Europe, 50k Japan)

Estimated 10 million Arrival for PS3: September 2008 (22 months after USA/Japan launch).

Was the supply contraint for PS3 really "months"? I think it was fairly attainable (at least in the US) around Christmas time. My prediction is 25 months - around Christmas 08.

 I think April 2008 would mark it 17 months.

Blip, trying to be generous. Sony reported supply constraints up till february, I believe. I saw them in store before the new year, but we'll take Sony's word for it. 

The Xbox 360 isn't doing very hot.  It is about as successful as the original Xbox.  That's on the same level of success as the PS2.  The 360 also had an awesome holiday season in 2006, in large part because of the Wii shortage.  Perhaps the Wii will still be in shortage this holiday and either the 360 or PS3 will be there to reap the benefits.

God knows that the PS3 *needs* it.

The PS3 fanboys group will have an heart attack after reading TheSource's post...

Why? It seems realistic if not slightly on the generous side for the PS3.  Does someone expect sales to magically vault forward millions of units?  The only thing that could change his results somewhat would be a price drop of more than $100.

I know it does, have you checked the 3rd prediction in my sig? (it's a bit on the risky side, I had it initially at 7 million, but decided to spice it up a little after doing some calculations).

However, at least one PS3 guy here expects the PS3 to sell 5 million during the holiday period this year, that's what I was talking about.

I reckon the PS3 will reach around 10m units worldwide between 1st March 2008 and 30th April 2008.

So what's that then, 16-17 months?
