Forums - Gaming - How long will the increased sales of the ps3 last?

This one is abit harder to predict; sony being an asswipe didn't stock the 80GB properly so we will have to see. Just due to MGS4 I'm sure 3 weeks at least but we need to see how the 80GB bundle comes along.

^it will most likely be like the motorstorm bundle

Some of our sources are indicating a huge shipment of Wiis is coming for the week ending June 21, so it likely won't be long, although obviously we don't have final data yet so its subject to change.

Also, PS3 outsold Wii worldwide in late March of 2007, so this isn't the first time it has happened, and it has outsold Wii occassionally in a region or two after a price drop/big game/new sku debuts or when Wii is supply constrained.

In Japan PS3 outsold Wii last fall

In Others PS3 outsold Wii occasionally in 2007

In Americas PS3 outsold Wii a few times when it faced supply issues in the holiday season for 2007

if they have a surprise price cut, it just might last forever.

MGS4 is a blockbuster release (and worth every penny) but can it exclusively (in NA at least) be attributed to why Sony is having such a successful month and is selling systems like hot cakes? Come on, folks, it's the return of BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY! Sales will continue to soar as long as Sony does 3 things: 1) Release a limited amount of bundles/BC models to have a like-effect on sales as Nintendo's highly successful psychological advertising has managed to move the casual gimmick machine - the "well, might as well get it now because there's no telling when I'll see it in stock again" mentality. 2) Keep the BC model available as a normal SKU or bring out the long rumored emulation for the 40GB SKU (would be good for JP/Others especially). 3) Get aggressive and go for MS's throat - don't allow MS to keep moneyhatting big exclusives and make it more attractive for third-party companies to push their products on the Sony platform. Rebuild the loyalty that existed on the PS2.

It is the third party developers choice to not make to exclusives for the PS3, not Sony's

these sales will be over with next week and they see rises like this again until the holidays. The PS3 just doesn't appeal to the majority. Lack of appeal and demand is the ps3's problem and nothing will change that.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

This week. No longer.

Keep in mind that this marks the week of the release of the most anticipated PS3 exclusive of the year, and the PS3 couldn't even beat the Wii, which had a supply-constrained week and no big releases, by more than 25k.

On top of that, reports are already coming in stating that this week's projected sales of MGS4 are much, much lower than last week, indicating that the game was very front-loaded in terms of its sales, and probably won't have very big legs.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

don't forget there were a $100 giftcard going on, by next week it'll drop back to average sale number.

For 2 weeks then it will drop to the same level as the 360. Then it will go below the 360 about 5-10k.
