Hey Rocketpig, how far are you? (Act) And the beginning was very corny.

You'll feel the same when you get to the end. I know it.

I'm still in Act 1. I wanted to get 4-5 hours with it last night but the wife had other plans.

Apparently I'm moving now and my rent will be raising by ~$700/month.

Fuck. All I wanted was to play my damned video game!

@StarCraft... disparity in review scores, you sure of that? I mean... it's either got 8, 9, or 10. Not exactly the greatest range of conflicting scores in the world.

Most reviews seem to be either 10 or 8.  The tens seem to be coming from series fans.  The comments in the 8's make it seem like the reviewers dont like the series and only give it decent scores because they know fans will.

I'm not saying thats a bad thing.  Any game just needs to appeal to its fans.  But still, the trend is there.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

@StarCraft

According to Metacritic, MGS4 has recieved:

5 100's
1 99
1 97
1 96
3 95's
1 93
4 8's

How the hell that is" most reviewers either giving a ten, or an eight", I do not know. Let's not also forget that 8 pretty much means "a very good game", and 10 means "a brilliant game".

Can I also point out that one of the 8's were from Edge, and not only did they give MGS3 an 8, but they are also one of the harshest reviewers out there, I should know, I often pick up the magazine, and I often add a one to the score that they have given (not that a one really makes all that much difference, anyways).

im going to disagree. im not a HUGE fan of the series. I cant tell you how upset past MGS games made me just because of how fragile the scheme and controls were....but this game is worthy of buying a PS3.

As others said the dialogue could be considered corny, but i think its delivered very well and i really have a problem calling something corny when the premise and characters involved are insanely over the top to begin with. i mean isnt th emain antagonist a split personality based on a limb replacement? lol. This whole package is phenomenal and i dont think the 8's are a result of "non fans" but a result of people with an agenda or a subjective view before they even review it. I also should note people giving it a 10 also fall into a seperate category of probably WANTING to give it a 10 before they even review it.

But then again im from the mold where any type of art, yes i consider videogames art, shouldnt get a 10/10 simply because once you reach perfection theres no room for improvement theoretically.

Ill just say MGS4 is th egreatest experience all around ive ever enjoyed . no scores needed. this is the greatest game ive ever played.

Really? I think Edge is probably the most accurate publication out there.

I usually subtract a point from IGN, GI, EGM, etc.

Okay here's the thing. I don't own a PS3 and me getting one is up in the air right now and most likely will be for the rest of this year at least. However, I'm happy you guys are excited and crazy about this game and I agree that we should be excited that this game(and any great games exist) in this day and age considering all the crap that hitting the shelves.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

exactly. its games like this. Bioshock, when it was still exclusive....maybe Fable 2....for me personally Paper Mario, for the wii....games that just make you smile based on their quality and existance.

@Rocketpig: I meant as in when comparing it to other reviewers. My purchases are heavily influenced by EDGE, as I believe that their harsh reviewing weeds out the good from bad (especially considering that they do have a slight anti-PS3 attitude)

i smell lots of sour grapes in this thread ;) u know who are you all

So we basically have opposite strategies to achieve the same goal. :D

Personally, I really like Edge. I appreciate people who actually go after a game's faults instead of white-washing every high profile title released.

Still, they have their faults. I will never understand their 10 for Halo 3.

Anyway, back to MGS4. Damn, I wanna go home and play this game right now. :(
