Resistance will easily hit 1,000,000 first week. Its the PS3's premier title this fall. It will be the biggest launch week this fall for the PS3. And it should be releasing on an install base of around 16 million or more, right?

I dont see how it will do under 1,000,000 since it WILL get good reviews and have the best graphics this generation for a shooter period. Also if things hold up as they are, it will be feeding off the Gears 2 hype as well.

I think this entirely depends on if Sony is stupid enough to let MS line up Gears 2 in the same week as Resistance.

If Sony can get R2 out first, it has a chance at a 1m week. If it goes against Gears or if Gears launches first, no chance.

Roughly 20 million purchases disagree with you.

How will GeoW2 hurt R2's sales? Neither are likely to sell much HW and imho R2 has a better chance of selling HW because it's so much better than R1. (and GeoW2 isn't going to be as much of a leap from GeoW1)

OT: I think R2 will be able to touch 1 mill first week. Especially if they nail the online. (Since we're talking Insomniac here, I'm going to assume they will) I think it will sell 5-6 million LT

Simple... Advertising campaigns, console purchases, and multi-console owners.

If Gears goes head-to-head or launches before R2, it will win the advertising war, the multi-console owner war, and probably the console purchase war for a short time. The hype behind Gears 2 will overshadow all other shooters for several weeks, reducing R2's opening impact.

If R2 launches first, it gets a shot at all three for opening week without Gears dwarfing it.
