Well as far as how HDTVs sell that's a simple fact, Plasma, DLP, and LCD togther (which are all HD TVs) outsold Tube television sets at retailers in 2006. That's a simple fact, and costs have come way down to where lower income families can afford it and anyone who has seen HDTV broadcasts will tlel you how much better it is than your regular cable TV. Thus after they see HD NBC, ABC, Fox, etc. they start wondering about HD movies and how well those look. Most people go for the wow eye factor, so sound is just a bonus and not a neccesity. I only have a 720p set, but now 1080p sets cost less than my 720p did. You can get a descent 40" 1080p screen for under 1500 dollars. And they are getting cheaper, and if you go smaller you can easily get one under 1000 dollars. Way back when we were used to spending that much on Tubes back in the day, it's not to hard to stretch to get these sets. HD movies are not a big business yet, but they will become one just based on the HDTV penetration.

How long would that take? in 3-5 years? By that time, Wii HD is most likely announced/out.

I don't know about your prices, but I can get a decent 32" SDTV locally for about $250.... If I recall the cheapest HDTV I saw was a 20-21" or a bit more than that (269 methinks). Lemme know when you consider HDTV "cheap enough".

I bought a 720p magnavox last year. Just the overall image picture of my old TV even on SD stuff amazed me. My PS2, and GC were beautiful. No Jaggies or any of those nasty effects I hate. Then I got my Wii... And was sad. Then I found a PS3... And was sad. My 26inch HDTV didnt do it justice. So I bought a 40inch 1080p Screen... And then I was happy... And then I put my Wii on it... and then I was sad. Holy crap. I'm sorry. But GC games as a whole look better than Wii games. (to me at least) PS2 games look fine on my Screen. GC games dont look that bad. And Wii games just are horrid. I blame the games... not the console, as GC games look beautiful with it. I know of at least 4 people that will buy HDTV this year. In all honesty... I only really keep track of about 5 or 6... so... That makes my parrents 2nd HDTV. My brothers First HDTV. My Grandpa's First HDTV... (they all have PS3s for assorted/diffrent reasons) And then I have a friend who plays his 360 on his computer monitor. But when he gets his PS3 in a few months. He plans on buying a decent sized HDTV as well. My father-in-law is also looking at them, but I cant guarantee that. 2007 is the year of HD. I was hopeing for some fun stuff from the Wii. Well there's 23DVD discs... ahead of the hottest BluRay disc. That dosent say a whole lot. But BluRay market saturation is at under 3million worldwide. HD-DVD is at around 400,000. Yet BluRay manages to make #24 on top 100DVDs @ amazon.com Who the hell knows how many DVD players exist. If I count my PS2, and X-Box, and PS3... And computers DVD drives... 9 or 10 myself. HDTV is almost there. I expecet it to become the 'norm' sometime in 2008. I've been HD for a year. I cringe everytime I play a PS2 game after playing some PS3 game. Flat... Blah... Colors... Meh... Detail? Where? I play mostly PS2 games... infact. I've bought more PS2 games than Wii games since Wii/PS3 launch. (more PS2 games than PS3 as well) I dont play games because they look great. I play games because they play great. (looking great is just a nice bonus) Games like Zelda the lack of HD didnt bother me. Games like Red Steel... made me sick. Games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance.... made me sick... the characters are so small... you cant tell who's who. (ok you can, but it's 4x easier on the PS3 version even though it dont really look better) I want to rent FarCry... I'm a sick puppy... I just wanna see how BAD games get. As I dont think I've seen many games rated lower than FarCry. That and I want to honestly compare it to Sonic PS3... (rent that as well) And see if FarCry deserves it's much higher score... or not. Now that Wiis are starting to sit on shelves. (PS3's have been 'starting' to sit on shelves now for over a month... and their not 'always' in stock) Let's see how the Wii does in Febuary. If by some grace of god... the PS3 comes closer to the Wii in febuary than in January (month sales). I dub this war as over. As the 360 Will be a decent contender. But I dont expect much. As the new rebuild for the 360... That would hurt my feelings if I bought one last year... infact I would be mader than crap. Since Sony decided to launch a killer console... microsoft decides to 'upgrade' their new units... so if you have a old unit... HAHAHA... YOUR SCRWED... COME BUY A NEW ONE! My friend finally got one this week, and my other friend is going to stores early tomorrow morning to see if a new shipment arrived...they are NOT sitting on shelves. Because this is the highlight of Kwaad's life. He just tries to get people to respond to him. He knows that most people here like the Wii, so its his best chance of getting people to talk to him. He is right about some things though. The PS3 is just trucking along, like a garbage truck. And Sony did release a killer console, as its clearly killing their company. This launch has been sony's worst nightmare.

Ok. Lets look at a picture of sony vs nintendo. PS1 launched. Similar to the x-box360. It was the underdog. It was the first next gen console out. The N64 came out 1 year later. The first 3 months of N64 ammounted to over 1million (US alone) the first 3 months of PS1... was about 300,000. Launches aligned. The N64 sold between 2 to 4x what the PS1 did for almost 6 months. Once the PS1 started selling like the N64. The N64 sales dropped. And then vanished. N64 WAS the one with all the rabid fans. Sonys consoles arent based on their launches like Nintendo. Sonys consoles are based on their 2nd x-mas. If sony starts outselling the Wii before summer... I dub this war closed. Sony is shipping ~1million worldwide/month. Nintendo is shipping ~700,000. Sony isnt in Europe yet. (for sales) Moral of the story Once sony hits Europe... I can see sony's to user sales hitting 1million/month... in April. (I expect worldwide PS3 sales close to 2million in march) If you think I'm crazy. Look at how many PS3s are going to europe. and the fact 1million PS3s on that boat... is counted for on a PreOrder. Add the 2million they will have at the end of febuary. Your looking at 5 million PS3's before June. Nintendo needs to do... 2 things. 1. Up production. They dont match sony's production. 2. Make sure they sell out. (the PS3 is selling out. People just arent foaming at the mouth and harassing stores for it anymore) 3. In Knoxville 1/8 stores have PS3. 4. In Knoxville 0/8 stores have Wii. I dont see how you can say the Wii is a monster success over the PS3... when Sony has bigger production numbers. If this launch is sonys worst nightmare... You forget one thing... N64 had nothing new to offer that PS1 had not... but now... PS3 has some things Wii doesn't and vice versa. And the world back in 1995-6 was completely different from now... people aren't that rich to buy a PS3, a HDTV, the HDMI cable, and some games... it costs as much as a low-cost car. N64 had nothing innovative... Wii has... and this is an important factor. (and don't forget that back in N64 era Nintendo had a limit on how many games a third-party could release and that's why N64 hadn't many 3rd party titles... keep all these things in mind and judge better next time... Wii is Wii, not N64 and PS3 is PS3, not PS1 or PS2.)
