Forums - Sales - Around 300,000 PS3s sold in Benelux, but 360 still ahead for now.

@BKK2: Maybe. I actually don't know what Ajax means. I think I heard of some guy called Ajax in Greek mythology. I know there is a football team called Ajax Amsterdam but don't know why is it called like this and what it has to do with Netherlands.

@Lafiel: Of course I know. I just thought if someone takes the effort to post a Europe map (that anyone can find easily) in Benelux thread he would actually find one with Benlux labeled. But apperently I was wrong as many people think otherwise.

I say Other Europe in this page, not in the continent of Europe.

10th out of 179 for Gross Domestic Product (nominal) per capita in 2007 according to the IMF. Poor compared to Luxembourg, though.

Per Capita makes a lot more sense. I already know that, but I assumed you were talking about overall wealth.

About 712 million people live in Europe.

The Benelux accounts for about 27 million people.

Other European countries listed by VGChartz seperately:

United Kingdom: 61 million

France: 64 million

Germany: 82 million

Spain: 45 million

Italy: 59 million

Scandinavia: 19 million (if including Iceland and Finland about 25 million)

So "other Europe" on VGChartz probably represents about 376 million people of which the Benelux accounts for about 7% of the 'other Europe' population.

Some strong PS3 countries in 'other Europe' includes Ireland, Portugal, Poland, Austria and Switzerland.

I would wish the "other Europe" section would get a better description so to better understand what's covered and included within what figures.

Actually I believe Portugal numbers are included in Spain, according to ioi. I sent him a PM asking if it wouldn't be better to call it Iberia since that's the case, but I don't know if he saw it.

That makes me suspect that there are some other similar cases. Maybe Austrian numbers are included in Germany. It wouldn't surprise me if Australia includes New Zealand as well. Ireland could be together with UK.

I agree with you that these things should be more clear.

 I agree with you both.

Even on a non per capita basis it's still 16th out of 179.

Nominal GDP

Per Capita probably makes more sense to look at, since it would show a relative level of th population that have the disposable income to spend on a video game system.

Of course, it's a mixture of everything, though. I wouldn't be surprised if more consoles were sold in the Netherlands than Luxembourg, simply because of the population difference, But that's taking into account how rich both countries are, Population difference most definitely isn't enough to make Russia sell more consoles than Benelux, after all.

But I'm probably ruminating on things you already know quite well.

My consoles and the fates they suffered:

Atari 7800 (Sold), Intellivision (Thrown out), Gameboy (Lost), Super Nintendo (Stolen), Super Nintendo (2nd copy) (Thrown out by mother), Nintendo 64 (Still own), Super Nintendo (3rd copy) (Still own), Wii (Sold)

A more detailed history appears on my profile.

VGC has 575,000 for PS3 in "Other Europe". Let's say half of those are sales in Benelux since that fits with the number in the article.

Benelux has a pop of 27 million.

Since ioi implied it above we can remove Portugal from your PS3-strong market list (incl in Spain sales).

Ireland + Austria + Switz has pop 20 mill so it's unlikey that more than 200,000 PS3s sold there. That leaves almost 100,000 PS3s for the rest - Greece at pop 11 mill + a bunch of Eastern European countries at 330 mill.

Not so long ago in a thread about Eastern European console sales, we could see that Next-gen console lifetime sales are very small in Poland (pop 38 mill) and Russia (pop 141 mill) - roughly 25K each.

So in conclusion, it all adds up well.

This thread made my day XD.
