Forums - Nintendo - Do Nintendo fans enjoy seeing the downfall of the HD consoles?

i dont see a fall of hd consoles at all.

wii is ahead in sales simply because nintendo have tapped into a new market which includes family play and child play

ninty have done very well though, they are a business after all i give them props for that

i dont think the ps3 and 360 will be catching sales on wii, but as far as gaming all the biggest and best titles are on ps3 360

but what a gamble nintendo have made and its paid off big time!

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Hello. Without having read through this all. I got the gist that you all suggest that the HD consoles have the same types of games. Well besides the obvious "you are incorrect" then how about the wii ?

Lets see.

Super Mario - Done to death (wheres luigi ?)
Zelda - Done to death
Sonic - Done to death.. (i know it's sega, but he appears a lot on nintendo)

Most of nintendos first party games are reruns of old games. I'm not saying that it's terrible, i'm just saying that maybe it's time for something new. Personally my favorate supermario game is Super Mario Bros. 3. For the Snes.

Nintendo is still milking it's key franchises to the point where the mascots should be gasping for air.

Ofcourse you see the same on other consoles, but not to this extreme point.

Again, i'm not saying they shouldn't make more mario games, i just think they should stop putting him in all of their games.
But hey, if it works it works.
People fail to see that all publishers do this.  Let's compare Sony and some their PS2 published games and Nintendo with some of their GC published games.

GC:

Mario - 1 title
Zelda - 3 titles
SSB - 1 title
Mario Kart - 1 title
Metroid - 2 titles
Mario Party - 4 titles
Pikmin - 2 titles

PS2:

GT - 5 titles
Socom - 4 titles
Jak - 4 titles
GoW - 2 titles
Ratchet - 5 titles
Hotshots Golf - 4 titles
ATV Off Road - 4 titles
Singstar - 17 titles
Getaway - 2 titles
Buzz - 11 titles
Amplitude - 2 titles
Ape Escape - 4 titles
Arc the Lad - 2 titles
Bleach - 4 titles
Gun Parade Orchestra - 3 titles
Sly Cooper - 3 titles

Rock_on_2008, that's straight from SDF and...nevermind.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I said "some" games. I didn't want to list them all because it would be twice as long for both of them and most of the other GC series only had one or two entries as well unlike the 4-5 or more on PS2.

Ah, the character usage issue. This is a fanboy fallacy that fails to factor in the function of familiarity.

Pardon the alliteration. The reuse of a character IP in different game series doesn't alter the game any at all. Replace Mario in Mario Kart with Leo the Lion but keep the same gameplay mechanics and the game is still the same good game minus the global recognition and immediate acceptance as a good game.

Character usage is simply brand recognition. If most games with that Mario character in it are good, then chances are the next one that comes will be too. but make a new IP without the Mario character and quality skepticism increases exponentially.

Mario's proliferation across many genres doesn't hinder the quality of any of the games. In fact, it ensures Nintendo will put efforts to keep that standard of quality high so as not to tarnish the brand s reputation.

Character familiarization allows the user to immediately connect with the game and feel comfortable.

They are not downfalling...
But they are the last of their kind.

Work in progress for now...

I don't enjoy the downfall of the HD consoles, I enjoy their fanboys cringing whenever monthly sales figures are released. Not that I'm evil, I've just had enough of the Nintendo = kiddy attitude of those people. Now I'm wiggling my blank ass in front of them. See how mature Nintendo fanboys can be.

Well, let's look at this the other way around, I don't think HD console owners care about the Wii being so successful.

The biggest multi-plat games are still exclusive to us. GTA IV, Resident Evil 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII etc...

PS360 owners care about the success of the Wii, about as much as a Ferrari F430 owner cares about the success of Toyota.

You know, I wrote a response earlier to say I didn't want anybody's favorite console to fail and I meant it. But then I read this obnoxious, arrogant posting and I just changed my mind. I hope whatever YOU like goes straight to hell, do not pass go, do not collect $200, and I cordially invite you to go there to play on it.

It's a pretty pathetic thing to be conceited and arrogant based on what video games you play and to think you can look down on others because of what video games they like. THEY'RE VIDEO GAMES FOR CRIPES SAKE, get some perspective. If they are the main source of your grossly inflated sense of self worth, then you must have no life, no class, and probably a very tiny.......

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine...

Strangely, so do I. As far as that is concerned, as long as Fallout 3 doesn't suck, I'll die happy.

I have confidence it will be good...but then, I'm a huge fan of Oblivion, and I never played Fallout 1 and 2. How long are those, btw? But yeah, I'm all for the expanding of the gaming market. Sony did it for 10 years, and now Nintendo is doing it again after saving the industry in the 80s. Good times.

Well I actually thought when playing Fallout 2 that a cross between Fallout 2 and Morrowind would be the perfect WRPG if it took the best aspects of each. Therefore I'm hoping for a great game as well.

Fallout 2 - the length varies depending on how you play. I think its possible to win in something like 10 minutes but it should probably take you about the same time as an average RPG.

Let's get one thing straight before I begin - everyone on this forum should be a hardcore gamer. There are no two ways about it.

Because of this, it often suprises me that Nintendo fans enjoy seeing the PS360 consoles fall; consoles which are entirely tailored and aimed at the hardcore gaming audience. The success of the Wii will mean that all console developers will spend a lot more time and money on the casual gaming audience and where does that leave us?

From what I can see of this generation, gaming will cease to be a hardcore form of entertainment. We'll still have hardcore games in the future but they're likely to be lower budget and less innovative.

As far as I can see, our preferred form of entertainment will go down the shitter as it becomes less and less profitable to make hardcore games. The success of the HD consoles is extremely likely to be the deciding factor on what the state of gaming will be in the next gen.

Well first let me say I'm a life-long Ninty fanboy so I'll defend them to the death about anything, but even so I still don't think the Wii will kill either "HD" or "hardcore" gaming.

First of all there will always be a "hardcore" group of gamers, I mean hell at least 90% of developers out there would probably consider themselves "hardcore" gamers so that division of gaming is not going to go anywhere. And over time I think that the overall percentage of game players who consider themselves "hardcore" will increase as more and more people get into gaming and play games regularly as their #1 source of entertainment. Yes, the Wii appeals mainly to the "casual" audience out there today, but i can clearly remember back to the days when the NES was synonymous with videogames out there, and it was very popular among the non-traditional gaming crowd even back then... when my uncle got an NES for X-mas back in the day, everyone in the family including my grandmother played Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong till the cows game home.

Everyone was into Nintendo back in the day, and to this day I'm sure that you all have at least a few relatives who will look at you like you have 8 eyes if you start talking about 360 or PS3, but if you bust out an NES they'll go apeshit and start playing that thing as if they never put the controller down after all these years. So now all the Wii is doing is starting the cycle anew, bringing in more people to gaming, and it's successor will most likely be more of a powerhouse console now that Ninty has a bajillion dollars saved up from Wii and DS sales, so surely they can put some money into making a more powerful system. Same thing that happened with the NES... they sold tons of consoles and games, and when it came time for its successor, the SNES, Nintendo was able to make (what was at the time) one of the most powerful pieces of gaming hardware and a showcase for the future of gaming. I'd also say that the SNES was also geared more towards the "hardcore" gamer with it's epic line-up of RPG games and tough as nails action and platforming titles, and I expect Wii's successor to follow in that path.

As for "HD" gaming and the current state of the 360 and PS3, I don't see a problem their either... another reason for the Wii's current mass appeal is that you don't need a state of the art HDTV to fully enjoy it, and since there arent yet HDTVs in the majority of households Nintendo was probably smart to go this route for now making the Wii more affordable. Of course by the next console cycle analog broadcasts would have ceased making digital and HDTVs standard fare, and Blu-Ray and other high-def media will be much more affordable and consumer-friendly by then. This is only the first generation of HD consoles so the market is only going to grow as the HDTV market grows. But at the end of the day if the HD consoles do fail, then i guess we can put all the blame where it's really deserved... on Wii Fit!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

10 minutes?  Is there some secret way to win at the beginning?  I assume that's one of multiple endings?

PS2 is still beating the Nintendo Wii in console sales.
PS2 = 125 million. Wii = 26 million.

I don't suppose the seven year head start plays any role here.
