I said "some" games. I didn't want to list them all because it would be twice as long for both of them and most of the other GC series only had one or two entries as well unlike the 4-5 or more on PS2.
Ah, the character usage issue. This is a fanboy fallacy that fails to factor in the function of familiarity.
Pardon the alliteration. The reuse of a character IP in different game series doesn't alter the game any at all. Replace Mario in Mario Kart with Leo the Lion but keep the same gameplay mechanics and the game is still the same good game minus the global recognition and immediate acceptance as a good game.
Character usage is simply brand recognition. If most games with that Mario character in it are good, then chances are the next one that comes will be too. but make a new IP without the Mario character and quality skepticism increases exponentially.
Mario's proliferation across many genres doesn't hinder the quality of any of the games. In fact, it ensures Nintendo will put efforts to keep that standard of quality high so as not to tarnish the brand s reputation.
Character familiarization allows the user to immediately connect with the game and feel comfortable.
