Good list of Nintendo franchises:

http://nindb.classicgaming.gamespy.com/fran.shtml

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Hey Cooking, stop being such a hypocrite. You're telling Trestes he is listing games not made by Nintendo (though publishes by) yet here you are listing the following:

Lair was developed by Factor 5.
Guerrilla Games was bought AFTER Killzone was released.
Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud were developed by Level 5
ATV Off Road Fury is developed by Climax Group.
Amplitude was developed by Harmonix.
Heavenly Sword was developed by Ninja Theory.
Folklore and Genji were developed by Game Republic.
Over half the Buzz games were made by Relentless Software.

That's almost half of your list right there.

How dare you bring logic and reason into a fanboy argument?

Their's a big difference between being a hypocrite and not knowing that a few of those sony games weren't made by sony. The fact still remains that his list contains a large amount of games that weren't made by nintendo or weren't even released on a nintendo console to begin with. And what does his list prove? It proves that in the past 3 generations nintendo have released fewer new ip's then what sony have and have rehashed the same franchises over and over again.

No, that list proves you know very little about the topic at hand. How could you not know Lair wasn't made by Sony? How could you have any credibility in this debate when you assumed almost half of your list were Sony creations?

See, you're suggesting that Sony doesn't follow up on their franchises as much as Nintendo does. Something I noticed is that most of those IP's that Sony no longer publishers, or develops, are now being developed and published by other companies, the developer is defunct, or the games sold poorly.....kinda keeps Sony from being able to make them now doesn't it?

Game still being developed that Sony no longer has IP rights to:
Arc the Lad - Namco
Ape Escape - Ubisoft/Hand
Crash Bandicoot - Vivendi
King of Fighters - SNK
Spyro - Sierra/Vivendi
Wild Arms - Xseed Games

Games you listed that Sony had nothing to do with at all:
Tsugunai: Atonement - Atlus

Franchises with more titles than you listed:
The Mark of Kri - 2
EverQuest Online Adventures - 2
G Police - 2

Games Sony published but didn't develop:
Drakan: The Ancients' Gates - Surreal Software
Lair - Factor 5.
Rogue Galaxy - level 5
Dark Cloud - 5
ATV Off Road Fury - Climax Group
Amplitude - Harmonix
Frequency - Harmonix
Heavenly Sword - Ninja Theory
Folklore - Game Republic
Genji - Game Republic
Buzz - Relentless Software
Extermination - Deep Space
Okage: Shadow King - Zener Works
Jet X2O - Killer Game
Treasure Planet - Bizarre Creations
Rise of the Kasai - BottleRocket Entertainment
Tomba - Whoopee Camp
Einhander - Square
G Police - Psygnosis

Franchises from defunct studios:
Singletrac - Warhawk (PS), Jet Moto, Twisted Metal
Deep Space - Extermination
Zener Works - Okage: Shadow King
Killer Game - Jet X2O
Whoopee Camp - Tomba

So sad, you're just running round in circles trying to find something when the truth is nintendo just keep on rehashing the same old sequels over and over again whilst releasing very few new original ip's and even fewer non casual games. In the past 3 generations sony have released more new ip's than nintendo and half of the franchises sony have released 5 more sequels to they have stopped making them now and have moved onto new things unlike nintendo who continue to whore out all their games they have released 5 or more sequels to. Just look at this generation, so far nintendo have released 11 sequels to old ip's where as sony have only released 5. New nintendo ip's 3, new sony ip's 6.

This has been clear for awhile. Wii passing up 360 has been inevitable from the beginning. The last few months have made it clear that since the PS3 is barely outselling the 360, and its games are not as appealing to the target audience, the 360 will beat it out.

Cooking, what's sad is your insistence that somehow stopping popular franchises that are still well received is a good thing.

You also continue to duck, dodge and weave the facts I presented regarding the actual number of Sony "developed" IPs, the defunct studios, the continued proliferation of former IPs, the purchasing of 3rd parties, etc....

It's funny that you're only suggesting Sony of being the lesser of two whores.

  1. I would hardly call the titles Nintendo puts out as "casual". Mario, Zelda, Smash Brothers, and Metroid are all very core gamer centric titles.

 2. Could this possibly be because Sony didn't exist in the gaming world before that point (PS1), and would need to create new IPs urgently? Nintendo already had a large stable of franchises. They weren't desperate for games to identify themselves with.

 3. Well, this is true. However, why would you not make great sequels to great games if you could? That's how business works- an established brand name is a major boost. Plus, you probably like companies such as Square-Enix, which pretty much makes only Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, with the occassional Kingdom Hearts thrown in. Plus, as viper1 pointed out, a lot of those games were made by defunct studios, are no longer owned by Sony, or were never owned by Sony. Besides, a lot of the games you mentioned, such as Killzone, are mediocre at best, which brings us to an even better question? Why would we WANT sequels to some of those games?

You're the one who's dodging the facts that are presented to you, this generation is just more of the same from nintendo, you keep dodging the facts that so far this gen nintendo have already released double the amount of sequels sony have and sony have released double the amount of new ip's nintendo has. Just because individually you can take a zelda and say yeah that's a good game doesn't change the fact that after you've played 4 or 5 of them it's just the same game rehashed over and over again. And you're the one who started all of this by posting in this thread and finally by saying sony is the lesser of two 'whores' you've admited that nintendo is worse.
