Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Ghostbusters gimped because of 360 limitations?

@Gameboy accept when Exclusives are involved :P I still think some of the best looking exclusives were on the PS2 :P For having such crappy hardware God of War 2 reamed quite a few companies xD

Choosing to put games on the PS2 held back the GC and the Xbox. This is no different: it's important to be the dominant, not the most powerful, console. This should be no surprise.

You have to remember even though this is true, Sony had and still has the best 1st party games compared to MS. So despite being the weaker console, the PS2 got a bunch of cool games that could really push the machine. I think the PS3 will really start to outdo the 360, once we see some of the more awesome exclusives, that will give the PS3 more credit than it has gotten so far. Which should start happening around autumn this year :)

"MR : For example, we’ve reserved one whole processor on the PS3 for Dolby Digital 5.1 sound whereas on the 360 you have part of one processor to do that. So we can have a lot better sound mixing and a lot more effects going on at the same time. That kinds of makes us do a little bit less in the game [360] but makes for better audio. If we’re doing a PS3 only game however, we could be doing a lot more. We could be pushing a lot more on the screen."

THANK YOU... someone actually know how to use the power of Multi-Core CELL.

And it will probably still be crap :? 20 years from now , another angry video game nerd will review this as one of the worst games of all , on the dinosaur that is called the PS3 :P

OT: who cares though, I mean it sounds like they're talking solely about audio quality. No big whoop.

"MR: We’re running the same game for both platforms but if we made a PS3-only game, for example, you could double the amount of objects on screen that you’re seeing. The PlayStation 3 has seven processors and the 360 only has three, so seven versus three means you can do a lot more on the PS3. We’re keeping the game the same over both platforms so we don’t want to take out any features."

if you guys think thats a report of epic proportion, then take a look at this newly found qoute about Mercinaries 2 on the PS3 compared to the 360:

''The world is going GTA IV crazy - and quite rightly so - but we've also been catching up with another anticipated open-world action game, Mercenaries 2. Developer Pandemic were on hand at a recent EA event, with senior producer Jonathan Zamkoff ready to update us on the Venezuelan bang-fest.
But it sounds like PS3 might actually get the better looking version in the end. Zamkoff reckons that PlayStation 3 is better than Xbox 360 at anti-aliasing, which suggests to us that Sony's version will be a sharper and perhaps more pleasing visual experience. We'll have to wait until our own eyes see the evidence to get excited, but it's interesting nonetheless.''

...yeah, its Gamesrader, but if this comes from the horses mouth then I be damned.

Indeed, I agree it's worth referencing that article in this discussion. Then, I would, as I posted it in my third post (seventh in total) in this thread.

That said, I think it's interesting to note the change in developer attitudes to the PS3. Last year, it was almost impossible to hear a third party developer talking positively about the PS3, especially in comparitive terms to the 360. Now that appears no longer appears to be the case. Indeed, some developers are even claiming the 360 has significant, unsurmountable problems when compared to the PS3.

My original question in this thread wasn't whether the PS3 was better, or whether the potential of the PS3 would even make a difference in the long term, it was about the seeming change in developer attitudes, and whether the quotations filtering through to us are isolated examples bucking the general trend, or whether they are the start of the new trend.

In short: Are we to see a new trend where some, then most developers claim the PS3 is better, and the 360 is worse, or are the above isolated examples? Or, will we see a return to the point where developers praise the 360 when compared to the PS3, and the PS3 is relagated as a cumbersome beast (or whatever)?

Yes, good point, qft. It's certainly not just about sound.

And, as for the avatar: Heh! It's a chap, not porn. If it offends, I'm happy to change it. I drew it an age ago for a game I was writing, and it kinda stuck as my online image.

@Hamp, don't change it, it's kinda hot :D

I really hope more devs keep figuring out little shortcuts and cheats they can use for optimizing the Cell. The games I'm REALLY looking out for this year are Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and Metal Gear Solid 4 to see how far they can push the graphics and on-screen madness.

XBOX360 limitations, but everybody knows that 99% of multiplatform run better on XBOX360...

A. Of all the games to have a concern about.....does anyone really care about Ghostbusters?

B. That's what they said about GTA and it's getting 10's everywhere on both platforms. Think of it like writing a five-page paper. You want to get as much as you can across in those five pages, but that's all you get. A strong writer will carefully choose what to leave in and what to edit out in order to maximize the effect he can achieve given the limited size. And it'll be a stronger paper if he can write in five pages as opposed to covering the same content in an unfocused 6 or 7.

Developers can keep the best stuff and boot the rest. There's been more than adequate sound and graphics and the 360 platform. I don't hear anyone going, "Well, if COD 4 only had another core, we could really have some fun."

If devs want better hardware they should make some or only plan for one platform. Otherwise shut up and develop for what's out there. I hate this damn PC I'm working on here at the office. It sucks and really does limit my production at times. But that's what I have to work on, and so that's that.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?
