That, right there, is missed potential if I’ve ever seen it. Nintendo should hire you for this idea alone.

I think people overlook just how bad the software lineup was especially at for the first year or two.
The gamepad was a problem but there were so many problems that its hard to say how much each contributed.

They didnt want to bring back memories of all I want for Christmas is a psp.
The first iPad was released in April 2010, so I guess Nintendo thought that tablet computers are the next big thing. They were confident that developers wanna use this new feature as much as they used motion controls in their games on Wii. In the end it wasn't useful to look at a second screen, which is so far away from the main screen, compared with the DS.
I think it says all how difficult it was to implement the Gamepad in a video game, if there exist first party games where the Gamepad screen is just turned off or is completely useless like in Mario Kart 8, DKC Tropical Freeze or NSMBU.
Though, the main problem why Wii U became a flop was the name and how the console was presented. In their first presentation/reveal they only showed the Gamepad and not the console itself, so many thought it's just an accessory for Wii. I believe a lot of people thought that the whole lifetime of Wii U.
