The Wii U did so much wrong that most disagreements devolve into which mistake was the worst.
But let's say, for the sake of argument, that they could make a successful console with the Wii U gamepad. Here are a couple of changes I would make:
1) Launch with a better "killer app" for the gamepad. Super Mario Maker, Minecraft, and Hyrule Warriors all made good use of the game pad. I also think any of these games would have been a better bundle with the Wii U than Nintendoland. The Wii was bundled with Wii Sports, which showed off the Wii remote perfectly. The Wii U wasn't bundled with a game that could anywhere compare to how good Wii Sports was. If the Wii U was bundled with Super Mario Maker at launch, then it would have faired a lot better.
2) Have more motion control games to bring over the Wii fans. The game that we call "Switch Sports" should have actually been on the Wii U.
I actually think if the Wii U had better sales the first couple of years, that third parties would have also supported it more during it's life, which would solve another major issue the Wii U had. Basically the horrible launch put it in such a bad position that it never really recovered. I don't think the Wii U would have done as well as the Wii even following my above suggestions, but it wouldn't have been a total flop either.
curl-6 bet me that PS5 + X|S sales would reach 56m before year end 2023 and he was right.
