Crash Bandicoot has turned 30 years old today! His first game released on the PlayStation on September 9th 1996 and became one of the defining series of the PS1 selling more than 28m copies over 5 titles.

I still remember picking up a PS1 with Crash 3 when I was just a toddler, it was my first home console game. (I believe I had played original gameboy before this but it's too early to remember.)

It's unfortunate the quality of titles didn't carry forward after Naughty Dog moved on and it's disappointing, we haven't really had any crash related announcements for this 30th anniversary... yet.

Looking back on Naughty Dog's output it's crazy how little resources it used to take to make such classic titles. Crash Team Racing was developed in just 8 months, with a core team of only 18 people.

What are your favourite memories of the series? Which titles do you like the most? Which do you hate?

The PS1 Crash games were a huge part of my childhood.

I didn't have a PS1, but my best friend in school did, so I'd go to his place and play Crash, Spyro, and Croc, and he'd come to my place to play Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Lylat Wars.

I have the most nostalgia for the first game as that's the first one I played, and my cousin also had it so I played it at his place a lot when we visited, but Crash 3 Warped is probably the one that I liked best overall as it was a little less punishing and had more variety.

Damn that made me feel old.

Crash was such a marvel on the original playstation. One of the first games that wowed me with its technical capabilities. ND used most of the tricks in the box to pull it off.
Was a long time since I played a Crash game. Do they hold up?

Out of the original trilogy Crash 2 is my favourite, I think it hits the sweet spot of not too difficult and not too easy and is more strictly platforming than the many vehicle/swimming levels in Crash 3. But they are both excellent.

The original Crash I did finish as a child, but I never got many gems, it was punishingly difficult to do that. In recent times I have fully completed the remake trilogy and completed 2/3 but to this day have still never 100%'d the original ps1 version of crash. As I've started collecting retro physical games I hope to pick up a copy of Crash 1 and actually fully complete it some day.

The first Crash on PS1 has definitely aged with its strange save system and is a little more janky than 2/3 which I think both hold up well to this day.

Some people complain about the physics in the NSane Trilogy feeling different but as someone who played the crash games constantly throughout my entire childhood I think the remakes are excellent.

The NSane Trilogy is cheap now and available on all platforms, so I definitely recommend checking that out if you have interest.

But yeah it's crazy to think that the time between now and the release of Crash is longer than the time between the release of Crash and the moon landings LOL.

Lots of great games in this franchise. Love it!

Crash 3 is the best but the whole trilogy on PS1 is pristine.

I can still remember playing Crash 1 when it came out. At the time, I didn't know what a memory card was. So when my parents rented the game, I ended up having to leave my console on for multiple days, just to try and beat it. I never did but boy, did it leave a mark on me. Such a great platformer.

Lol, but crash 1 had a password feature! You could save your progress just by writing down a series of buttons!

Rayman also had that feature, only a few early PS1 titles did afaik.

I can't vote. It's too difficult to choose. The Crash games back in the day were a blast to play. The original trilogy, CTR, Crash Bash and Crash Twinsanity are all incredibly fun to play. I bought the N.Sane Trilogy but the asthetics and the gameplay didn't please me, so I sold it. The same goes to Crash Nitro-Fueled, altough I still have it. And I still haven't played Crash 4. One of the things I want the most in the gaming industry I for Crash to have another goldena age, with lots of fun platformer games to play.

Ok, I'll vote for Crash Bash bc I think it deserves some credit. Imo, it is highly understimated
